The director of the CNIO will be removed from her position following her controversial management
This Wednesday the board meeting of the Centro Nacional de Investigaciones Oncológicas will take place.
The director of the CNIO has woken up with new updates. This Wednesday, the board meeting of the National Cancer Research Center will take place. There, the future of María Blasco, who finds herself between a rock and a hard place, will be decided.
However, according to El Debate, the board's decision has been brought forward. More specifically, Blasco will be removed from her position following her controversial management in the role she has held for years.
After this information was released, several researchers have celebrated her departure. However, they claim that "it comes eight years late," but, "we finally trust that there will be some justice."
The controversy revolves around key aspects, such as her role as honorary president of a foundation related to the PSOE. Also, the appointment of her sister by Minister Saiz, and the use of resources intended for cancer research to finance artistic acquisitions and pay high salaries.
Hours before the extraordinary board meeting, a leak occurred. The meeting, scheduled for 11:00 a.m. at the Ministry of Science headquarters, will last approximately two hours.
During the session, the board members will discuss "the adoption of agreements regarding the continuity or cessation of the foundation's governing bodies and the corresponding measures." In particular, attention will focus on the reports presented by María Blasco and manager Juan Arroyo, who will not attend the meeting.
Despite this decision, Blasco herself wanted to cling to her position. To do so, she joined the government's discourse, explaining that these were "hoaxes and misinformation."
More specifically, she has stated that she is not resigning from her position and that "she can't believe this campaign of hoaxes and misinformation." This way, she joins the criticisms launched by the government at all those critical media referred to as "pseudomedia."
However, her attempts have been in vain, as the decision has already been made, as the mentioned media assures.
It is worth highlighting her victimhood campaign where she compared her situation to the extermination of the Jews. Going into detail, María Blasco has denounced the campaign of insults, attacks, and defamations she claims to receive.
In addition to that, she claims to have been a victim even of "death threats." This is confirmed by El Debate. In the document, Blasco denounces the speed with which a "campaign of misinformation and rumors" has circulated through communication channels and social networks.
According to the media, Blasco claims that this phenomenon is reminiscent of the "dehumanization" suffered by the Jews in Nazi Germany. It is worth noting that this letter has been released on the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz.
