Warnings Worsen for Friday: These 6 Regions Are Now on Alert
Watch out this Friday, many areas of Spain could be affected by the consequences of the incoming front.
The change in weather expected for this Friday in Spain is taking on a more concerning dimension. What was already announced as a storm of rain, strong winds and even snowfalls has led AEMET to extend the alerts. This confirms that the situation is more severe than initially anticipated.
More Affected Areas: AEMET Activates Alerts
For days, meteorologists have been warning about the arrival of this instability. As hours pass, the models have shown a more adverse evolution. Initially, alerts had been activated in four northern communities, but now six regions are under a yellow warning.

On Friday, Asturias, Cantabria, the north of Castilla y León, the coast of Galicia and the Cantabrian slope of Navarra will experience wind gusts that can reach 56 mph (90 km/h). Yellow level warnings have been activated for this reason.
This wind intensity can cause trees to fall, infrastructure problems and traffic difficulties, especially in exposed areas.
Maritime Storm with Waves Up to Six Meters
The strong winds will not only affect the interior but will have direct consequences on the state of the sea. On the coasts of Galicia, Asturias, Cantabria and the Basque Country, a maritime storm is expected with waves that could reach up to 20 ft. (6 meters) in height.

In light of this situation, AEMET has activated alerts and it is recommended to take extreme precautions on promenades and areas near the coast. The strong waves can create dangerous situations.
Intense Rain in Galicia
In addition to the wind and waves, the rain will also play an important role in these days of instability. Galicia will be the most affected community by the rainfall, the only one with a warning for it.

They will have accumulations that could reach 0.4 gallons per square yard (15 liters per square meter) in just one hour and up to 1.1 gallons (40 liters) in 12 hours, especially in A Coruña and Pontevedra. The rainfall will spread to other regions as hours pass, although not with the same intensity as in the northwest.
An Unstable Weekend
This episode of bad weather will not be limited to Friday. Throughout the weekend, the instability will spread to other areas of the country with more widespread rain. There will be a drop in temperatures and a much more wintry atmosphere than in recent days.
Meteorological authorities recommend staying alert to updates and taking precautions, especially in areas where warnings for wind, rain and waves have already been activated.
