Vox Blocks 8m Motion in Valencia City Council for Second Consecutive Year
VOX councilors have rejected, for the second consecutive year, the motion presented at the Valencia City Council Plenary for the celebration of March 8
VOX councilors have rejected, for the second consecutive year, the motion presented in the Valencia City Council Plenary for the celebration of March 8, arguing that this date has been used for ideological purposes and that its postulates do not align with the principle of equality enshrined in the Constitution.
The spokesperson for the municipal group, Juanma Badenas, has defended his party's stance by stating that "we don't believe in positive discrimination because we don't want negative discrimination either. Whenever a group is positively discriminated against, others are harmed as they don't receive the privilege or advantage that such discrimination implies." According to Badenas, VOX advocates for a model where people are valued for their merit and ability without distinctions derived from gender policies.
The party has criticized that the celebration of March 8 has been used to "promote the progressive discourse of gender ideology" and has expressed their rejection of Pedro Sánchez's Government policies in this area. In this regard, they have denounced the increase in the number of women murdered, the management of violence cases under the Valencian Administration's supervision, and the "only yes means yes" law, which they attribute to the release and reduction of sentences for numerous sexual offenders.
VOX has also pointed out that the Government has promoted immigration policies that, in their view, have allowed the arrival of people from cultures that "despise women," thus contributing to an increase in insecurity. Additionally, they have criticized the public spending allocated to this matter, which they consider a "waste" that hasn't solved the real problems of women.
Among their proposals, VOX councilors demand harsher penalties for sexual crimes, including life imprisonment for repeat offenders, identifying offenders released by the "only yes means yes" law, and eliminating the Ministry of Equality and subsidies to associations that, in their opinion, promote social confrontation.
With this rejection, VOX maintains its opposition to the equality policies promoted in recent years and reinforces its stance in defense of a model that, they argue, doesn't create privileges based on gender.
