This is what Google overpaid to sponsor Begoña Gómez and her software
The company informs Peinado that to the initial commitment of 40,000 euros it added more money.
The case of Begoña Gómez is making headlines again. This time it's known that Google paid more than the initial 40,000 euros.
Specifically, Google funded the development of the business software for Begoña Gómez's chair at UCM with 110,000 euros. A tool that Judge Peinado is investigating for possible embezzlement by Begoña Gómez. All stemming from the complaint by Hazte Oír, which expanded to four the charges the magistrate is imputing to Gómez.
This was explained by the newspaper La Razón.
The tech company has confirmed this to Judge Peinado. They explain that while the initial disbursement was 40,000 euros, this amount was increased. The payment rose by another 70,000 due to the growing technical difficulty of the project.
Let's remember that it was supposedly a digital tool for companies to verify the level of compliance with the competitive social transformation objectives set in the 2030 Agenda.
The submitted document details what the project consisted of. "The development of a free platform that allows small and medium-sized enterprises to plan the improvement of their objectives. In terms of sustainable development and measure the impact of the measures carried out."
Google Ireland Limited signed a sponsorship agreement with UCM on December 1, 2022. With this, it committed to sponsoring the Transforma TSC Project with a contribution of 40,000 euros.
However, they justify those additional 70,000 euros due to the technical complexity. "As the project progressed, its technical complexity increased progressively and turned out to be greater than initially anticipated." Therefore, to ensure its "correct completion and execution" according to "quality standards," that amount was disbursed.
For its part, Google specifies that the expenses derived from the project "were treated as ordinary expenses for tax purposes." So they "didn't result in any tax benefit or incentive."
