Spain records the worst data in Social Security membership loss since 2020

The average number of affiliates stood at 21,095,814 contributors, a record for a January in the historical series.

The data disproves the Government's rocket. The Ministry of Inclusion, Social Security, and Migration has provided new figures on Social Security that are dismantling the socialist discourse.

Specifically, Social Security lost an average of 242,148 contributors in January compared to the previous month (-1.1%). This is its worst figure for this month since 2020, due to the decline in employment in hospitality and commerce, which destroyed almost 100,000 jobs. All because of the end of the Christmas season.

The figures show a record in January in the historical series. After the decline in employed people recorded in the first month of the year, the average number of affiliates stood at 21,095,814 contributors.

While it is normal for employment to be destroyed after the Christmas season, the drop in affiliates is the largest in this month since 2020. At that time, slightly more than 244,000 employed people were lost.

In the last year, from January 2024 to January 2025, Social Security has gained 491,053 affiliates on average, with an annual growth of almost 2.4%. In the last four years, the Ministry highlights, almost 2.3 million affiliates have been added to Social Security.

The largest decline in that affiliation was greater among women. Despite the feminism that this Government exudes, it seems unable to prevent that drop.

They lost 133,334 female affiliates in the month (-1.3%), bringing the total number of female contributors to 9,975,868 affiliates. Dropping below the 10 million mark after four months above this figure.

Meanwhile, male affiliation decreased in January by 108,815 men compared to the previous month (-0.9%). The total number of employed men stood at 11,119,946 people.

From the Ministry, they highlight that since the year before the 2021 labor reform, female employment has grown by 10.8%, compared to a 7.9% increase among men. Meanwhile, the average affiliation of foreigners decreased in January by 37,789 contributors. This represents 1.3% less compared to the previous month, bringing the total to 2,843,029 employed people.
