Emotion and solidarity at the Palau de la Música with Gustavo Dudamel's concert
The Venezuelan maestro conducts a historic night in València for the benefit of bands affected by the DANA
The Palau de la Música in València witnessed an unforgettable evening with the charity concert in favor of the musical societies affected by the recent DANA. An event filled with emotion, with 120 musicians on stage under the baton of the prestigious maestro Gustavo Dudamel, and presided over by H.M. Queen Sofía, who received a great ovation upon her entrance to the Iturbi Hall.
The event brought together prominent figures from the political and cultural spheres. Among the attendees were the mayor of València, María José Catalá, the president of the Palau de la Música, José Luis Moreno, and other members of the municipal corporation. Also present were the first vice president, Susana Camarero, the second vice president and councilor for Economic and Social Recovery, Francisco José Gran Pampols, as well as the councilor for Education and Culture, José Antonio Rovira.
Additionally, mayors from various affected municipalities, such as Cullera, Xirivella, Castellar-Oliveral, Vilamarxant, Utiel, Chiva, Sedaví, La Torre-Faitanar, and Horno de Alcedo, attended alongside important representatives of the Valencian business community, including Juan Roig and Hortensia Herrero, as well as Vicente Boluda and Esther Pastor.
A repertoire for history
The concert began with a solemn performance of the Spanish National Anthem, followed by the piece Albares. Concerto for flugelhorn by trumpeter Pacho Flores, who once again shared the stage with Dudamel, with whom he maintains a close friendship since their training in Abreu's "El Sistema" in Venezuela.
After the intermission, the orchestra and the Cor de la Generalitat, along with soloists from the RTVE Choir, the Jove Orquestra de la Comunitat Valenciana, and students from the Joaquín Rodrigo Conservatory of Music, performed a monumental version of Gustav Mahler's Symphony No. 2, "Resurrection." The emotional finale of the piece elicited a prolonged ovation from the audience.
As the crowning touch, the night concluded with the performance of the Anthem of the Comunitat Valenciana, in a version with arrangements by Pacho Flores, providing a solemn and emotional close to a day that will remain in València's memory.
