The Costa Blanca, epicenter of the Volta a la Comunitat Valenciana cycling race

Alicante's Provincial Council supports one of the most prominent competitions in the Spanish cycling calendar

As every year, February marks in the province of Alicante the beginning of one of the most important cycling events at a national and international level:  the Volta a la Comunitat Valenciana (VCV). In its 76th edition, the competition will have the support of the Legislature de Alicante and will feature two prominent stages on the Costa Blanca.

The city of Orihuela will be the setting for the opening day on Wednesday, February 5, with a 21-mile (34 kilometers) team time trial that will finish in Orihuela Costa and will create the first differences in the general classification.

The next day, Thursday, February 6, the race will experience a mountainous challenge of 103 miles (166 kilometers) between La Nucía and l'Alt de Partegat (Benifato). This stage is expected to be decisive for the title contenders, with a route that includes demanding climbs such as the Coll de Rates and l'Alt de Benimantell, as well as an unprecedented finish in the competition.

Institutional support and dedicated fans

The Sports Deputy, Bernabé Cano, has emphasized the importance of this event for the province:
"Alicante once again consolidates itself as an ideal destination for cycling thanks to its orography, climate, and magnificent fans, who come out to the streets every year to support the riders and enjoy the spectacle."

The VCV 2025 will extend until February 9, with a total of five stages and the presence of some of the best teams in the international peloton. The Legislature de Alicante strengthens its support for this event, which contributes to the promotion of sports and the tourist image of the Costa Blanca.

The inauguration of the competition will feature the presence of the vice president of the Legislature, Marina Sáez, who will participate in the awards ceremony of the first day. Meanwhile, Bernabé Cano will be present at the start and finish of the second stage, a key day for the outcome of the race.
