The new maneuver by the Attorney General that could change everything

The scandal surrounding the Attorney General, Álvaro García Ortiz, continues to grow. This very week, García Ortiz visited the Supreme Court as a defendant for an alleged crime of breach of confidentiality. Although the prosecutor's alibi doesn't work in his favor, he has decided to appeal to higher authorities to prevent the investigation from advancing.

García Ortiz is willing to appeal to the Constitutional Court. This is to report the "violation of his rights" in the entry and search of his office and that of the provincial prosecutor of Madrid, Pilar Rodríguez.

According to close sources cited by El Confidencial, García Ortiz will file the request for protection before the body presided over by Cándido Conde-Pumpido. Supposedly, once he exhausts the avenues of appeal before the Supreme Court.

During his statement, the Attorney General emphasized that the interception of his communications has been key in Judge Ángel Hurtado's decision to charge him. It was the magistrate himself who, on October 30, ordered the search and seizure of any material or electronic device. Among these, including mobile phones, as well as the complete copy of their content.

In parallel, the intervention was also carried out in his subordinate's office. These actions are part of the investigation into the alleged leak of information related to Isabel Díaz Ayuso's partner.

Both searches were challenged twice, first by the State Attorney's Office, which defends the affected prosecutors, and later by the Prosecutor's Office itself. Thus raising the appeal to the Supreme Court's Appeals Chamber.

In his appearance as a defendant, García Ortiz reiterated the arguments presented in his defense writings. These were focused on the alleged violation of essential rights enshrined in the Constitution, a direct competence of the Constitutional Court.

Meanwhile, the Attorney General awaits the Supreme Court's resolution to take the next step, Judge Hurtado continues to advance the investigation. During the interrogations of the defendants, he has hinted at his intention to expand the scope of the case. Which initially focused on the leak of emails between the defense of businessman Alberto González Amador and the Prosecutor's Office.

This, in the context of an attempt at a plea agreement. With these new moves, the investigation seems to return to its starting point.
