Marlaska in the spotlight of the PP for alleged 'police support to the Attorney General'

The Popular Party, through its representatives Ana Belén Vázquez, Macarena Montesinos, and Álvaro Pérez, presented several questions in Congress

The Popular Party has requested the appearance of Fernando Grande-Marlaska and the director of Police, Francisco Pardo. They want explanations about the technical support offered to the Attorney General, Álvaro García Ortiz, after the deletion of his messages during an ongoing investigation.

This request arises after it became known that García Ortiz contacted the National Police to solve technical cybersecurity issues.

The request occurred just 72 hours after Judge Ángel Luis Hurtado ordered the Civil Guard to recover the deleted messages.

According to El Confidencial, a close contact of the prosecutor initiated the process on January 9. This person approached the head of the Computer Security Brigade, who in turn channeled the request through an official from the Ministry of Justice.

Finally, the request reached Commissioner Juan Carlos Sancho, head of the cybercrime unit.

Meanwhile, the Supreme Court requested information from the platforms WhatsApp LLC and Google related to the prosecutor's accounts to clarify the case. These actions have raised serious doubts within the opposition, which accuses the Government of being involved in the process.

The Popular Party, through its representatives Ana Belén Vázquez, Macarena Montesinos, and Álvaro Pérez, presented several questions in Congress.

In these, they question whether any member of the Executive was aware of the request and whether it was made officially or unofficially. They also ask the Government to assess whether it is ethical for an investigated person to consult technical doubts with high-ranking police officials.

The controversy deepens after it became known that both García Ortiz and other members of the Government, including President Pedro Sánchez, had changed mobile devices after the investigation began.

This move, along with the involvement of the cybercrime unit, has caused multiple speculations about an attempt to obstruct justice.

Meanwhile, the Senate has already censured the Attorney General. Meanwhile, the PP is intensifying its efforts for Marlaska and Pardo to appear. They also want to clarify whether the National Police acted in complicity with the prosecutor's circle.

From the Government, there has been no official statement on the accusations so far. However, the issue has gained momentum on the political agenda, and a tense parliamentary debate is expected in the coming days.

The PP seeks to determine whether there was any direct or indirect order from the Executive that justifies the technical advice provided to the Attorney General. With this offensive, the opposition hopes to clarify responsibilities and stop what they consider a serious affront to judicial institutions and democracy.

The case of Álvaro García Ortiz is shaping up to be one of the biggest scandals in recent years, with implications that could extend to the highest levels of the Government. The pressure on Marlaska and Pardo is increasing, while the country awaits clear answers on this controversy.
