The latest request the judge has made to the Prosecutor's Office regarding Álvaro García Ortiz
The investigation against the Attorney General advances as new details continue to emerge.
Supreme Court Judge Ángel Hurtado has taken a new step in the investigation into the alleged revelation of secrets involving the Attorney General, Álvaro García Ortiz. This Wednesday, the judge agreed to implement two measures requested by the accusations since December.
Hurtado has directed several requests to the IT department of the Attorney General's Office. In these, he asks for information about the mobile phones used by García Ortiz. Specifically, Hurtado has requested the mobile phones handed over by the Attorney General to the Attorney General's Office since March 7, 2024.
The judge has also taken another measure regarding the mobile phones. He has requested to know all the details about the times the mobile phone has been changed and whether the previous devices have been formatted. If they have been formatted, the judge has requested information on who performed it and the date it was carried out.
The investigation continues to grow after Judge Hurtado also requested that the Data Protection Officer of the Public Prosecutor's Office provide the protocols on the use of mobile phones and emails.
The magistrate has sent letters rogatory to the instant messaging service providers WhatsApp LLC and Google. The main objective is to recover possible messages that may have been deleted from García Ortiz's devices. The UCO had suggested this measure to recover all information related to the Attorney General's mobile phones and emails.
Another line of investigation points to possible contact between García Ortiz's circle and the National Police. According to El Confidencial, a collaborator may have approached the Central Cybersecurity Brigade of the National Police to request technical advice on recovering deleted messages. This may have occurred after Magistrate Ángel Hurtado ordered the Civil Guard to recover the lost information.
Manos Limpias has also requested the Supreme Court to clarify whether the Attorney General turned to the National Police for advice on this matter. According to these reports, García Ortiz's team's interest in obtaining technical details about the deleted messages could be related to covering up key evidence.
As the investigation progresses, the net tightens around the Attorney General. New data continues to emerge about the course of the investigation, while the Government continues to defend García Ortiz's role.
