Movistar Doesn't Take Vodafone's Latest Blow Well: This Move Is Treacherous

A customer reports on social media that she has just been tricked into switching companies without her consent

Vodafone has made a move that has angered Movistar. It also left many users worried about the tactics some companies might be using to attract customers. This fact has been exposed thanks to a complaint made on social media by a user who experienced a confusing situation.

The affected person recounted how, upon receiving a call from the number 680141004, she believed she was speaking with a Movistar representative. The confusion was even greater because the number that contacted her ended in 1004. This clearly evokes Movistar's customer service.

However, what seemed to be a legitimate call from her operator turned out to be a trap by Vodafone, she claims. She indicates that the person who identified as part of Movistar offered to change her router. As a "long-time customer," she was promised a "bill reduction at zero cost."

Despite the attractive offer, the user didn't suspect that something was wrong and provided her personal data. Trusting that she was doing the process with her usual provider.

Vodafone deceived the Movistar customer

However, the critical moment came when the recording was made to confirm the change. The person who attended her thanked her on behalf of Vodafone for agreeing to the change. That made it clear to her that she had fallen for a scam.

The user, realizing she wasn't speaking with Movistar, tried to cancel the portability process. The reply was that they would cancel the procedure in half an hour.

To the affected person's surprise, instead of receiving the cancellation, Movistar contacted her to inform her about the portability that had already been completed. That is, her number had been transferred to Vodafone without her explicit consent. This caused great concern about the process and the intentions of the operators involved.

Very frequent strategies

This type of practice is not new. But the way Vodafone used a number similar to Movistar's to carry out the operation has made it clear that customer acquisition tactics are confusing. Scams like this are a warning for all telecommunications users.

One must always be alert to the calls we receive, even if they seem to come from trusted companies. The use of phone numbers that resemble those of other operators and the offer of irresistible discounts are the most frequent strategies.
