Mario Picazo gets ahead of AEMET and issues an urgent warning: heavy rain is coming
The famous meteorologist has warned that a new storm will arrive in Spain following Herminia's passage.
This week begins with a focus on the Atlantic, where large-scale storms are forming. The meteorological activity is relentless, and Mario Picazo has warned about the phenomena that will affect much of the country this week. Mario Picazo's forecast indicates that the coming days will be dominated by heavy rains, intense winds, and a significant drop in temperatures.
The storm Herminia is already leaving its mark on much of the country, and AEMET has activated several red, orange, and yellow warnings. Its impact will be felt not only with rain but also with snow, wind, and strong waves. The Galician coast is experiencing gusts exceeding 100 kilometers per hour (62 mph) and waves that surpass 10 meters (32.8 feet).
Almost All of Spain on Alert Due to the Arrival of Storm Herminia
The storm Herminia is causing significant incidents on the northwest coast and other nearby regions. Hurricane-force winds are spreading across many areas of the country, affecting both the coast and the interior. In the Mediterranean, gusts could also exceed 100 kilometers per hour (62 mph), especially in exposed areas.
This storm is affecting 16 autonomous communities in Spain, causing strong winds, heavy rains, snowfalls, and dangerous coastal phenomena. Galicia is one of the most affected regions, with red alerts on its coast due to waves that could exceed 8 meters (26.2 feet), winds up to 100 km/h (62 mph), and persistent rains.
The northern peninsula, including Asturias and Cantabria, faces intense winds and significant waves, with waves up to 6 meters (19.7 feet) and abundant precipitation in mountainous areas. The Basque Country suffers from strong winds and coastal phenomena, and in the interior, continuous rains make mobility difficult on secondary roads.
La Rioja and Navarra experience snowfalls in mountainous areas and moderate winds. Meanwhile, Aragón is under warning for snowfalls in the Pyrenees, with accumulations that can reach up to 10 cm (3.9 inches).
Catalonia, especially Tarragona and Barcelona, faces heavy rains and strong winds up to 70 km/h (43.5 mph) on the coast and mountain areas. The Valencian Community and the Region of Murcia record persistent rains and winds up to 80 km/h (49.7 mph).
The Balearic Islands also suffer from winds and waves, with waves up to 4 meters (13.1 feet) and gusts affecting navigation and maritime connections. Castilla y León and Castilla-La Mancha face significant snowfalls in mountainous areas and winds that could exceed 70 km/h (43.5 mph) in exposed areas. The Community of Madrid is under yellow warning for snow and wind, especially in the Sierra.
Mario Picazo Warns of the Arrival of Another Storm Midweek
Mario Picazo has warned that the week will not stop with the storm Herminia, as a new storm is expected for Wednesday, January 29. This new system will bring rains moving from west to east, affecting much of the territory. Although it will be less extensive than Herminia, its proximity to the Cantabrian coast will intensify the effects in that region.
The precipitation will be especially abundant in Galicia, Asturias, and between Castilla y León and Extremadura. It will also reach the Mediterranean with more force toward the end of the week, although the most significant accumulations are expected in the northwestern peninsula. In the Canary Islands, although more isolated, the rains will also make an appearance.
With the entry of these storms, cold air will begin to seep in from the Atlantic. This will cause a widespread drop in temperatures, especially in the north and center of the country. Additionally, the wind will increase the wind chill, which will be especially noticeable in mountainous areas.
The lowering of snow levels will be another highlighted aspect. Throughout the week, significant accumulations are expected in mountainous areas of the north and center of the peninsula. Even in some areas of the south, snowfalls could be sporadic but intense.
Although the week will be marked by instability, there are possibilities that the weather will give a respite over the weekend. According to forecasts, the anticyclone could stabilize the situation, temporarily moving away the rains and winds.
