Alert for the next few hours in these 16 areas of Spain: rain, snow, and wind
Today is the most challenging day of the Herminia storm, and it brings hurricane-force winds, maritime storms, and snow in mountainous areas.
The storm Herminia has arrived in Spain with full force. Today, Monday, January 27, is expected to be the most adverse day during its passage through the Peninsula and the Balearic Islands. The day presents complications, with alerts of varying intensity activated in 16 autonomous communities due to heavy rains, strong winds, snowfalls, and dangerous coastal phenomena.
The winds will blow strongly from the southwest, reaching gusts exceeding 70-80 km/h (43-50 mph) in wide areas. In mountainous areas, this intensity will be even greater, while in the southwest and the northeastern depressions, they will be somewhat more moderate. Additionally, the maritime storm will severely affect the coasts of Galicia and the Cantabrian Sea.
16 Communities on Alert Due to the Arrival of Storm Herminia
Galicia will be one of the most affected regions. The community has activated the red warning on its coast for waves that could exceed 8 meters (26 feet), posing an wingere risk in coastal areas. Additionally, strong wind gusts reaching 100 km/h (62 mph) and persistent rains are expected in several provinces, especially in A Coruña.

Catalonia will be under warning for heavy rains, especially in the provinces of Tarragona and Barcelona, where more than 20 mm (0.8 inches) could accumulate in one hour. These precipitations will be joined by strong winds, with gusts up to 70 km/h (43 mph) on the coast and mountainous areas.
A similar situation will occur in the Valencian Community and the Region of Murcia. In these regions, the rains will be persistent, and the winds could reach 80 km/h (50 mph), causing problems in coastal and rural areas.
In the Balearic Islands, wind and waves will also dominate the day. Waves up to 4 meters (13 feet) and wind gusts are expected to affect navigation and maritime connections between islands.
On the other hand, in Castilla y León, snow will be the main challenge. Snowfalls will affect the mountainous areas of the north and the Central System, with accumulations exceeding 10 cm (4 inches) at altitudes above 1,000 meters (3,281 feet). These conditions will also extend to Castilla-La Mancha, where the provinces of Guadalajara and Cuenca will record significant snowfalls, in addition to winds that could exceed 70 km/h (43 mph) in exposed areas.
The Community of Madrid will be under a yellow warning for snow and wind, especially in the Sierra, where accumulations of up to 5 cm (2 inches) are expected at altitudes above 1,200 meters (3,937 feet). extremadura, meanwhile, although it will not suffer snowfalls, will be affected by strong winds reaching 70 km/h (43 mph), mainly in Cáceres.
