Neither Tarradellas nor Buitoni: These Are the 2 Worst Supermarket Pizzas According to the OCU

The OCU Reveals the Unhealthiest Frozen Pizzas You Can Find in Supermarkets in Spain

In Spain, frozen pizza is one of those foods that get us out of a bind and allow us to enjoy a meal without complications. It doesn't take much to enjoy a pizza, just place it in the oven and in minutes we have a dish ready to consume.

However, an analysis by the Organization of Consumers and Users (OCU) on 118 refrigerated and frozen pizzas has revealed an unhealthy outlook. Despite the convenience and taste of these pizzas, most of them do not meet the recommended nutritional standards. In fact, three out of four fail the OCU's healthy scale, which raises serious doubts about their value as a food option.

The OCU study has focused on the nutritional composition of frozen pizzas, a popular food in Spanish households. The OCU has analyzed the amounts of saturated fats, sugars, and salt present in these pizzas. Also, the degree of processing each product undergoes and the additives they contain.

The results are not encouraging. Many of the pizzas sold in supermarkets are full of unhealthy ingredients, such as an excess of salt. This makes them a very unadvisable option if one is looking for a balanced diet.

The 2 Worst Supermarket Pizzas, According to the OCU

Among the pizzas evaluated by the OCU, the ones that received the worst scores were two products from the Casa Bona brand. The goat cheese and bacon pizza from Casa Bona was rated as the worst option, obtaining only 11 points out of 20 possible in the OCU's evaluation.

The cooked ham pizza from the same brand also did not fare well, with only 12 points on the scale. Both have been rated as "very bad choices" and are among the worst supermarket pizzas according to the OCU's analyses.

Why are these pizzas so bad? The main problem lies in the high content of salt, saturated fats, and calories. Additionally, the high degree of processing of these products is also one of the reasons for their low score. The OCU places special emphasis on the amount of artificial ingredients and additives present in the composition of these pizzas.

Although Casa Bona pizzas stand out as the worst on the list, they are not the only ones that fail in the OCU's analysis. Many popular brands of frozen pizzas also receive poor scores regarding their nutritional profile.

In this regard, the OCU recommends carefully reading the nutritional labels before opting for a frozen pizza. It is important to pay attention to the content of salt, saturated fats, and calories, and avoid those that, in addition to being unhealthy, are excessively processed.

What Are Healthier Options?

Not all is lost for pizza lovers. Although the outlook for frozen pizzas is not bright, there are some healthier options on the market. Opting for pizzas with fresh ingredients, such as whole wheat crusts, or preparing pizza at home with fresh products, is a better alternative.
