Sam's Club makes a major decision in the U.S.: Members are already applauding

Sam’s Club is revolutionizing its offerings in the United States with new proposals to improve its members' experience

In the retail world, major chains are constantly seeking ways to stand out and offer more value to their customers. Sam’s Club, which is part of the giant Walmart Inc., is no exception. Recently, the chain has drawn attention for a new initiative that promises to change the way their members care for their pets.

This new Sam's Club project focuses on veterinary health, benefiting both animals and their owners. Thanks to a partnership with Spot Pet Insurance, Sam’s Club has launched services that include personalized veterinary insurance, discounts on medications, and access to a pharmacy in their stores. With this decision, the company is responding to the growing demand in the pet market, which in the United States keeps growing.

Sam's Club launches an accessible and practical veterinary program

The core of this new offering is based on making pet care simple and affordable. Members can get up to a 15% discount on customizable veterinary insurance plans.

Additionally, if several pets are added to the plan, the savings can increase with an extra 10% off insurance, reveals America Retail. The offer also includes more than 110 pet medications at low prices, around $80 (80 dollars) or less, with no need for complicated reimbursement forms.

Among the available medications, more than 50 cost $15 (15 dollars) or less, which helps make veterinary care more accessible. There are also free preventive treatments against fleas, ticks, and heart parasites for dogs and cats. The big advantage for customers is that they can pick up these products at the pharmacy in Sam’s Club stores, avoiding paperwork and long waits.

Sherri Keeth, vice president of health at Sam’s Club, highlighted that "we knew there was a great opportunity to make a difference in the lives of millions of families." She also explained that the positive experience they already offer in human health now extends to animal care, making this process more trustworthy and convenient.

Total health integration for members

This veterinary program adds to the already robust health services offering that Sam’s Club has developed in recent years. Among them are same-day medication delivery through DoorDash Drive, available for members and non-members, and the 98point6 virtual clinic, which offers medical care via chat. This way, Sam’s Club is creating an ecosystem that covers both human and pet health.

Walmart, the parent company, has also strengthened their services for animals. In 2023, they opened their first pet services center in Dallas, Georgia, and have replicated this model in other cities. These centers offer routine veterinary care and grooming services, supported by the company PetIQ, which operates in more than 65 Walmart stores.

The initiative includes expanding these centers and home delivery of pet medications. Additionally, Walmart+ members now enjoy the digital Pawp service, which allows unlimited 24/7 veterinary consultations by video call or chat at no additional cost.
