Vox Will Present an Motion to Prevent Illegal Immigrants from Registering
In the statement presented by Vox, it is argued that there is currently no law preventing these people from registering in the census
Vox will bring to the Congress plenary session next week a motion to prevent "squatters"and immigrants in irregular situations from registering in the municipal census. This proposal seeks to amend the Bases of Local Regime Act.
Vox's proposal is based on what they consider a legal "paradox." According to the party, it is inconsistent that illegal acts such as squatting or illegal residence in Spain allow these people to join the census. The measure would affect both those who illegally occupy homes and irregular immigrants.
In the statement presented by Vox, it is argued that there is currently no law preventing these people from registering in the census. To remedy this, Vox proposes that, to register, a document proving ownership of the home or authorization from the owner be required. Additionally, in the case of illegal immigrants, their irregular status should be expressly reflected in the census itself.
The motion also highlights the consequences that, according to Vox, are "deeply harmful" both for society and the Spanish legal system. In this regard, Santiago Abascal's party emphasizes the growing problem of illegal squatting in Spain.

Increase in Illegal Squatting
According to the data, in the first eight months of 2023, an average of 45 cases of illegal squatting were recorded per day. This amounts to a total of 10,974 cases. The party warns that this phenomenon continues increasing and the lack of clear regulation has led to more people becoming involved in squatting.
This type of squatting, Vox argues, creates a serious problem for legitimate homeowners and generates insecurity both in affected neighborhoods and in cities in general. Vox's legislative motion seeks to curb this phenomenon, which they consider detrimental to coexistence and public safety.
Illegal Immigration as a Harmful Phenomenon
Another key point in Vox's proposal is the concern about illegal immigration in Spain. The party highlights that the country is experiencing one of the largest illegal immigration crises in recent years. Vox believes that this phenomenon has "deeply harmful consequences," especially regarding public safety and labor relations.
In their statement, it is highlighted that illegal immigration creates a "dangerous situation" by Spain's not being able to adequately control migratory flows. Additionally, they emphasize that the presence of illegal immigrants in the country increases unfair competition in the labor market, especially affecting Spanish citizens.

Vox stresses that the Spanish legal system must regulate illegal immigration as a "gravely harmful" phenomenon for society. In this context, the party calls for all measures and public policies to focus on "identifying and sanctioning" illegal immigrants. The aim is to curb what they consider an unsustainable situation.
