Vicente Sales Dismantles Compromís's Strategy in Castellón
The spokesperson for the Castellón City Council's governing team, Vicente Sales, has replied forcefully to Compromís's accusations.
The spokesperson for the government team of Castellón City Council, Vicent Sales, has replied forcefully to Compromís's accusations about an alleged veto on the debate regarding the linguistic consultation in educational centers. "There is no veto, the only thing that exists is an adaptation to the Plenary's regulations that all political groups must respect. What Compromís can't do is cheat, because the rules are the same for everyone," Sales stated.
The councilor explained that the nationalist group knew from the beginning that their proposal was not within municipal jurisdiction. "The Plenary's General Secretariat informed them through a diligence that the initiative they wanted to present could not be processed as a motion, as it doesn't fall within municipal competencies," he detailed. Despite this, according to the local government's spokesperson, Compromís has preferred to fuel the controversy instead of adapting to the established rules.
Sales recalled that viable alternatives were offered so that the debate could take place in the Plenary, such as the presentation of an Institutional Declaration, a plea or a question. However, Compromís has chosen to reject these options and accuse the government team of preventing the debate, thus generating an artificial controversy.
The municipal government insists that the functioning of the Plenary is regulated and is the same for all parties, without exceptions. "No one here is trying to steal the debate. The rules are clear and must be followed, regardless of the political party," Sales concluded.
This response comes in a context of growing tension around the consultation on the base language in educational centers, promoted by the Generalitat Valenciana and the subject of intense political debate. Meanwhile, Compromís tries to turn this issue into a point of confrontation, the government team defends the need to respect the regulatory framework and avoid debates that exceed municipal competencies.
