The Diputación de Valencia is driving recovery with the new non-permanent commission.

The plenary session of the Diputación unanimously approved coordinating the recovery of the areas affected by the DANA.

The full assembly of the Diputació de València has unanimously approved the creation of a non-permanent commission to coordinate the recovery of the regions affected by the DANA. This body, with an initial duration of six months extendable, will analyze the immediate reply and the reconstruction process in the damaged municipalities.

A Commission of Consensus and Dialogue

The president of the Diputació, Vicent Mompó, will chair this new study body, composed of spokespersons from all political groups, technicians, and experts in the field, as well as representatives of the citizenry. Although these latter will have a voice, they will not have voting rights.

Mompó has highlighted that the Diputació has allocated 150 million euros to address the initial needs and rebuild infrastructures. He has also assured that "the mayors will not be alone" and that collaboration with other institutions will be prioritized to solve problems such as the extraction of mud in the affected municipalities.

Immediate Measures and Budget Flexibility

The assembly has also approved the allocation of 150,000 euros to each of the 13 new municipalities affected by the DANA, including Aras de los Olmos, Chelva, Villar del Arzobispo, and Xeraco, which will be able to allocate the Pla Obert aid to reconstruction projects without prior restrictions.

The finance deputy, Laura Sáez, hasn'ted that these municipalities join a total of 100 beneficiary councils, with the possibility of deciding the total destination of the aid according to local needs, eliminating bureaucratic procedures.

Unanimity and Political Nuances

The spokesperson for Ens Uneix, Natàlia Enguix, has emphasized the importance of transparency in the recovery process, while representatives of the PSPV and Compromís have requested the inclusion of an analysis of the management prior to the tragedy. However, the spokesperson for Vox, Sergio Pastor, has requested avoiding the political use of this catastrophe.

Meanwhile, Mompó has closed the debate by assuring that the staff of the Diputació is working tirelessly on the recovery: "I am proud of the effort of this institution and its support for those affected."

Other Notable Initiatives from the January Assembly

Review of Sexual Harassment Protocols
At the proposal of Natàlia Enguix, the Diputació urges all municipalities in the province to review and update the sexual and discriminatory harassment protocols. This measure arises following the complaint by Alzira councilor Mar Chordà for alleged workplace and sexual harassment.

Enguix has lamented the lack of unanimity in this motion and has called for a firm condemnation of these behaviors: "It is our responsibility as politicians to ensure a safe environment for everyone."

Consultation on the Vehicular Language
The assembly approved suspending the consultation of the vehicular language in Valencian educational centers, returning this decision to the school councils. Enguix stated that this measure is key to protecting Valencian as a cultural identity marker.

Cofrentes Nuclear Power Plant
Finally, a motion by Vox was approved that rejects the closure of the Cofrentes nuclear power plant in 2030. The Diputació urges the Government of Spain to extend its activity and develop a National Energy Sovereignty Plan.
