This has been the number of vehicles removed in Valencia before Las Fallas.

October rains leave behind countless wrecked cars and more than 60,000 tons of debris.

The  Generalitat Valenciana has made significant progress in removing vehicles damaged by the floods that affected the region in October 2024.

In total, more than 90,000 vehicles have already been removed from the areas designated for their temporary storage. This work pace, with a daily average of between 4,000 and 5,000 cars, is allowing the collection centers to be emptied quickly and the situation in the affected areas to be normalized.

The Infrastructure Minister, Vicente Martínez, highlighted that the first days after the DANA were complicated due to the large number of vehicles affected. Therefore, the collaboration between the municipalities and the Generalitat has been essential to expedite the process.

"At first, it seemed like an overwhelming task, but with joint effort and improved logistics, we have managed to remove thousands of vehicles," commented Martínez Mus.

The vehicle removal process has been key to relieving the collection centers. The vehicles were initially moved to these areas from the zones most affected by the floods.

Now, thanks to coordination with scrapyards across Spain, the cars are being sent to recycling plants outside the Valencian Community.

This work has increased the vehicle removal capacity, which went from less than 500 cars daily to the current 4,000 or 5,000.

Beach Cleaning in Southern Valencia: 500 Tons of Waste Daily

Besides vehicle removal, another priority task after the floods has been cleaning the beaches in southern Valencia. Since January 11, cleaning teams have been removing an average of 500 tons of waste and reeds from the beaches daily. In total, it is expected that more than 60,000 tons of debris will be removed from these areas in the coming weeks.

The Mayor of Valencia, María José Catalá, noted that, due to the delay of the Coastal Demarcation, dependent on the Ministry of Ecological Transition, the Valencia City Council took on the responsibility.

This amount will be subsequently claimed from the Government of Spain. "It's crucial that the beaches are clean not only for the enjoyment of Valencians and tourists but also for their environmental value. Especially in areas close to natural spaces like the Dehesa de El Saler and the Albufera," stated the mayor.

Progress on Valencia's Beaches: Complete Cleaning in El Perellonet

The cleaning work is progressing according to the established timelines. The beach cleaning is expected to be completed before the end of February. This will ensure that the beaches are in optimal condition for the arrival of the high tourist season.

On El Perellonet beach, the cleaning work has mostly been completed, with only the fine cleaning remaining. In Pinedo, approximately a quarter of the accumulated reeds have been removed.

Three collection points have been set up, at the old sports center of El Saler, Casbah, and the Casal de Esplai, where the waste is transported to the Hornillos recycling plant.

Collaboration Between Institutions and Companies in Recovery

The success of these cleaning and vehicle removal operations has been made possible thanks to the Generalitat Valenciana, municipalities, centers for the treatment of damaged vehicles, and scrapyards across Spain.

Martínez Mus: "The speed with which the vehicle removal has been managed is the result of a joint effort and excellent coordination among all the parties involved."

With the aim of recovering the affected areas as soon as possible, the authorities continue to work at full speed, ensuring that both the beaches and urban areas return to normal.
