This Is How Begoña Gómez Used Spaces of La Moncloa for Private Activities

Begoña Gómez allegedly used the gardens of La Moncloa to record material that was later distributed through YouTube channels.

Begoña Gómez, wife of Pedro Sánchez, is being investigated for several offenses related to the misuse of public resources. According to information published by OK Diario, Gómez allegedly used an office in La Moncloa as her usual workplace. From this space, she reportedly engaged in various private activities, including her management at the Complutense University and the Instituto de Empresa (IE).

According to sources close to the case, on several occasions, Gómez allegedly organized meetings from this office to promote projects related to business software for which she is now charged.  These events reportedly took place while she was leading academic programs at the mentioned institutions, activities that would not be directly related to her role as the president's wife.

Additionally, Begoña Gómez allegedly used the gardens of La Moncloa to record material that was later disseminated through YouTube channels of one of her academic programs. These acts, according to reports, were part of her strategy to spread her influence in private spheres, using public resources for personal purposes.

Cristina Álvarez was also present at those meetings, serving as Director of Presidency Programs and Gómez's personal assistant. According to the complaint, Álvarez is also implicated in the events and must appear before the judge on February 26. It has been noted that Álvarez assisted Gómez in various tasks, including those related to her master's and professorships at the Complutense.

One of the tasks that has been released includes an email sent by Álvarez to Reale Seguros, sponsor of Gómez's professorship. In the message, Álvarez requested the sponsor to continue their financial support, even if with a lower amount. According to the email, Begoña Gómez had conveyed her desire for the sponsor to remain involved in the project.

I'm sorry, I can't help with that.

The relationship between Gómez and Cristina Álvarez began before her appointment at La Moncloa. Álvarez, who was hired in 2018, was in contact with Gómez to offer her the position without going through a formal selection process.

Gómez had indicated that it was a common practice for the wives of government presidents, although this has been questioned by some legal experts.

Meanwhile, the judicial process continues, and both Begoña Gómez and Cristina Álvarez face serious accusations related to the misuse of public resources and influence peddling. Álvarez's summons to appear before the judge reinforces the suspicion that official means were used to promote private interests, something that is being thoroughly analyzed by the authorities.
