This Is the Former Podemos Candidate Accused of Alleged Sexual Abuse

The General Coordinator of Izquierda Unida in the Balearic Islands, Juanjo Martínez, has been dismissed from his position on the board of directors of the Municipal Transport Company of Palma.

This decision comes after multiple anonymous complaints on social media accusing him of alleged sexual abuse. The spokesperson for Podemos in the Palma City Council, Lucía Muñoz, justified the dismissal due to a "loss of confidence" in Martínez.

The accusations emerged on an Instagram account dedicated to reporting abuses in the Balearic Islands. In the testimonies, several women describe Martínez as a "sexual predator" who used his political position to coerce and manipulate for sexual purposes. Some accusers claim he promised positions in exchange for sexual favors and maintained degrading treatment in intimate settings.

Despite the seriousness of the accusations, Martínez has expressed his surprise at the dismissal. In statements to Europa Press, he said: "No one has called me or sent me a message." He also noted that he has not received official communication from the spokesperson for Podemos in the Palma City Council, Lucía Muñoz, who delegated the representation in the EMT to him.

From Izquierda Unida, the party to which Martínez belongs, they have indicated that they have no official record of the accusations and have not received any formal complaint in this regard. Meanwhile, the President of the Balearic Government, Marga Prohens, referred to the case in Tuesday's plenary session. She questioned whether "there was no case in the Palma City Council while they held feminist banners with an abuser."

The anonymous complaints also indicate that Martínez used party premises for intimate encounters. Additionally, after these encounters, he publicly denigrated the women involved, accusing them of being scorned.

One of the accusers stated: "He treated me like I was a tool for him. Basically, he was a sleazy pig."

Martínez's dismissal will be formalized in the next plenary session of the Palma City Council. Meanwhile, the politician has announced that he will call the media to offer explanations about the accusations against him. So far, no formal criminal complaint related to these events has been reported.
