This Is the Catalan Activist Accused of Threatening a Woman in Mexico
The incident came to light when the worker shared a video on social media
Joan Serra Montagut is the president of Casal Català de Yucatán and a recognized activist in favor of peace and women's rights. Well, he is under investigation by the General Prosecutor's Office of that Mexican region. The investigation focuses on an alleged assault against a waitress and possible crimes of death threats and damage to others' property, according to Milenio.
He is a 38-year-old Spanish journalist who has been recognized internationally for his activism and work as a cultural manager.

The incident came to light when the worker shared a video on social media. It was captured by the security cameras of the establishment where the altercation occurred.
In the recording, Serra Montagut is seen reacting with anger due to the loud volume of the music. The events took place at Café Lavé, a coffee shop located in downtown Mérida.
Although he wasn't a frequent customer, the young woman identified him immediately. He was a guest at a nearby Airbnb, someone who often boasted of representing Catalan culture in the area. His attitude and the way he looked at her were unsettling for her.
Complaint and Background of the Accused
Both the victim and the business owners filed a formal complaint against Serra Montagut. Despite being known in the community for his activism and participation in cultural events and radio programs in Yucatán, he reacted this way.

The complainant describes him as an unstable and dangerous person. His work with women and children has caused great concern among local residents.
The affected woman has shared a video clip showing the ten minutes during which she was threatened and assaulted. A recording has also gone viral showing how the café owners, joined by police officers, confront the accused. At that moment, Serra Montagut reacts violently, especially in the presence of a woman who was documenting the incident with her phone.
