Castellón Commemorates 8m Highlighting the Role of Pioneer Women

The mayor of Castellón and Councilor for Equality, Begoña Carrasco, has presented the program for International Women's Day

The Mayor of Castellón and Councilor for Equality, Begoña Carrasco, has presented the program for International Women's Day, celebrated on March 8. The first mayor was joined by the President of the Municipal Equality Council, Clara Adsuara, whom she thanked for her involvement in advancing the creation of a more equal society, along with the work of the professional team of the Equal Opportunities Service (SIO).

Carrasco highlighted the progress made in the development of the fourth Municipal Equality Plan, whose diagnosis has already been completed. "This study is essential to understand the current situation and set the lines of action that respond to the needs of the women of Castellón," explained the mayor. Additionally, she emphasized services such as free psychological care for victims of gender-based violence and the VioGen Local Police unit, which collaborates with the National Police to protect women.

Among the initiatives to promote family-work balance, the mayor highlighted the Conciliation Plan aimed at families, which seeks to facilitate the work and personal life of women. "We want to recognize the trajectory of the brave women who broke barriers in their time and whose efforts should not be forgotten, which is why we maintain the Olimpia Award," stated Carrasco.

The 8M programming kicks off with the "Women and Cinema" cycle and the screening of the documentary film The Yellow Ceiling, directed by Isabel Coixet, at the Raval Theater. The institutional event will be on March 7 in the Plenary Hall with the presentation of the Olimpia Award and the 2024 Women's Story Contest awards.

On Sunday, March 9, the 19th edition of the Cursa de la Dona will be held, with more than 3,900 people registered so far and forecasts to exceed 4,000 participants. The programming will conclude with an intergenerational wellness day for women on March 15 and the conference "Changing Images to Change the World," by Yolanda Domínguez, on March 17 at the Menador.
