The Chj, Between Opacity and Deficiencies During the Dana
The management of the CHJ during this DANA not only highlights technical deficiencies, but also a concerning lack of commitment to transparency and public safety.
The management of the Júcar Hydrographic Confederation (CHJ) during the recent DANA has once again called into question its effectiveness and transparency. The organization has admitted that the water supply from the channel that was supposed to alleviate the flood has not reached the expected levels. Although it acknowledges that the flow has been insufficient, it avoids taking responsibility, attributing the failure to technical issues without further explanation.
Even more concerning is the CHJ's decision not to update its website with the actual data, claiming that the volume is so low it doesn't deserve to be published. This attitude denotes an alarming lack of transparency, especially in an emergency situation where truthful information is vital for citizen safety.
Additionally, the organization has reported that several measurement sensors are not working, but it hasn't specified which ones or at what locations. This opacity generates a sense of uncertainty and insecurity among the population, who are forced to rely on incomplete and unclear data in the midst of a crisis.
The lack of credibility of the CHJ is not new. The lack of coordination was already evident during the Poyo ravine flood in 2023, when alerts were not activated in time, endangering hundreds of residents. Despite that episode, the main officials of the organization, including its president, remain in their positions without having assumed any responsibility.
While the Emergency Councilor has been replaced, the Government Delegate and the CHJ president continue to sit in CECOPI meetings as if nothing had happened. The public needs organizations that guarantee safety with clear information, not institutions that hide behind technical excuses to justify their ineffectiveness.
The management of the CHJ during this DANA not only highlights technical deficiencies but also a concerning lack of commitment to transparency and public safety. A thorough review of its operation and the assignment of responsibilities is urgently needed to regain society's trust.
