The Latest Revelations in the Koldo Case that Point to Sánchez's Government
Since Aldama was released from prison, accusations and allegations against Sánchez's government haven't stopped
The Koldo case continues to leave questions. The scheme also known as the hydrocarbons plot continues to focus on businessmen Víctor de Aldama and Claudio Rivas. However, since the former was released from prison, accusations and allegations against Pedro Sánchez's socialist government have not stopped.
These allegations against the government coincide with the diesel suppliers of the plot, as confirmed by The Objective. Supposedly, "they allowed them to have the license and we sold it to them, it's not our problem," as confirmed to the newspaper.

Despite their attempts to distance themselves, the UCO has pointed out in previous investigations on hydrocarbons fraud that these types of business practices are being increasingly monitored.
Hacienda's Mistake
The Ministry of Finance, led by María Jesús Montero, is once again at the center of controversy. Supposedly, in 2023, the Ministry provided one of the main tools for VAT fraud in this area.
At the beginning of that year, the Tax Agency introduced the so-called Redef register (register of fiscal deposit extractors). This was to supervise companies in the sector and prevent fraud.

However, the problem arose when Hacienda opened a door for all companies in the chain to extract fuel from fiscal deposits. This allowed inexperienced individuals, with limited companies of just 3,000 euros and without technical or financial capacity, to access fuel storage facilities and begin extracting it.
Royal Decree 249/2023, from April, was what allowed these actors to take advantage of that legal loophole and carry out the fraud. The mechanism consisted of acquiring fuel without VAT within the fiscal deposits. Then, selling it with VAT outside of them, without declaring the income caused by sales to gas stations, as required by Hacienda.
The fraud continued undetected until the Ministry for the Ecological Transition corrected it several months later. According to data provided by the Tax Agency, VAT fraud in the hydrocarbons sector grew by 254M euros in 2023 compared to the previous year.
In 2022, the fraud reached 460.7M, while in 2023 it reached 715.1M, representing an increase of 55% in just one year.
