The Supreme Court's decision that sends shivers down Ábalos's spine
The Supreme Court takes a step forward and puts the man who was Pedro Sánchez's trusted confidant against the ropes.
The former socialist minister, José Luis Ábalos, who was a trusted confidant of Pedro Sánchez, finds himself between a rock and a hard place following the decision of the Congress of Deputies. The investigation into the relationship between Ábalos and the "Koldo case" had been stalled until last week. Now, the Supreme Court has the green light to investigate the former number "two" of the PSOE, and it will do so urgently.
The investigation into the Koldo case is intensifying, and the focus is on Ábalos. Allegedly, the accounts and assets of the main suspect, as well as those of his family and personal circle, have become a priority. There is suspicion that part of the funds allegedly obtained might be located abroad.
The progress of the proceedings is anticipated to be slow due to the complexity of the asset analysis and communications. These, until now, had not been subject to investigation due to a lack of judicial authorization.
With the new approach, they will seek evidence that could shed light on the case. All of this, according to information published by El Confidencial.
The Central Operational Unit (UCO) faces a significant challenge, as the main suspect has had 11 months since the start of the case to prepare and allegedly conceal compromising details. This time, according to the mentioned digital source, would have been more than enough to hinder the investigators' work.
In this context, the former minister José Luis Ábalos has maintained a defense based on discrediting the accusations of businessman Víctor De Aldama, calling them "lies." He has also questioned both the conclusions of the UCO and those presented in the reasoned report by Judge Ismael Moreno.
The case has gained complexity since Aldama decided to cooperate with the Justice. This not only reinforced already documented suspicions but also brought new revelations. These, about the alleged collection of commissions and the role of the former minister and his advisor in public works contracts.
Koldo's Suspicious Contacts That Alert the UCO
Koldo García, who was a trusted confidant of José Luis Ábalos, is back in the spotlight. This time due to his contact list being very close to the top of the National Police and the Civil Guard.
Now it is the UCO that is analyzing all the relationships Koldo maintained during the time the scheme diverted public funds through commissions. One of the contacts listed on the device is Francisco Pardo Piqueras, director of the National Police. Also included is María Gámez, the director of the Civil Guard who resigned after her husband was charged in a judicial offshoot of the EREs in Andalusia.
This investigation being carried out by the UCO is framed within the tip-off the scheme received just as they were being investigated. Before the arrests took place.
Let's remember that the network already had the help of Rubén Villalba, a commander of the Civil Guard. Now the UCO agents are searching for the origin of more leaks.
In fact, Koldo himself has already stated that he was aware that this investigation was being conducted on him.
So far, Koldo hasn't acknowledged any contact with Pardo Piqueras, head of the Police, or with Gámez. Although it is not ruled out that investigators may find that Ábalos's advisor exchanged messages with them. The period that alerts the UCO is from mid-2021, when Pedro Sánchez dismissed Ábalos.
