The huge amount of money from all Spaniards that Irene Montero has spent on a trip to Chile
One month before leaving office, the former Minister of Equality was in Chile traveling in first class.
Irene Montero is once again the talk of the town after her latest trip before leaving her position as minister became known.
This time, an official trip that cost the state a total of 39,184 euros is revealed, shortly before she left her post. The former Minister of Equality and current MEP of Podemos traveled with three companions. It was between October 10 and 13, 2023, to Santiago de Chile.
This is reported by the newspaper THE OBJECTIVE.
All to participate in the Regional Conference on Women in Latin America and the Caribbean.
The most serious aspect of all this is that the cost of plane tickets was 36,000 euros just for her and her entourage. Due to this commitment in her schedule, Montero didn't attend the military parade on Hispanic Day that year.
This was the last trip Montero made as Minister of Equality before being replaced by Ana Redondo from PSOE. The former minister organized her trip to Chile knowing she would soon be replaced, according to the newspaper THE OBJECTIVE.
They indicate that the trip was hastily planned by her team. The plane tickets and other travel expenses caused a public expenditure of 36,800 euros. Of those, 800 euros were for the use of the VIP lounge.
Additionally, a sum of 2,381 euros was allocated for accommodation.
During the October 2023 trip, Montero flew in business class joined by one of her assistants, while the other two members of the entourage traveled in economy class. As reported by the aforementioned media.
All flights were operated by a commercial airline, according to the information available on the Transparency Portal. The total expenses of the ministry also include the costs of Montero's companions.
The entourage stayed in Santiago de Chile during their visit, as they participated in events in the Chilean capital on October 11 and 12, returning to Madrid on the 13th. Thus, the 36,000 euros were exclusively for the round-trip plane tickets.
Irene Montero's 'MeToca' App Funded with Public Money is No Longer Available
The "MeToca" application, launched in 2023 by Irene Montero, is no longer available after an expensive project costing 211,750 euros. The app aimed to distribute tasks.
The purpose of the "MeToca" application was to balance the distribution of household chores. Its slogan, "Tired of always being the one doing the household chores?" showed an apparent concern for domestic fairness.
The app was promoted as part of the Co-responsibility Plan, aiming to promote equality in households. However, the cost of this project raised doubts about its priority over more urgent issues.
The public money invested in "MeToca" could have been allocated to much more important causes. Diseases like ALS or cancer, which affect thousands of people in Spain, need more financial support and attention.
Montero, along with Secretary of State Ángela Rodríguez 'Pam', presented "MeToca" as a tool to change habits and balance household chores between men and women. The question arises: is it really a priority to spend that amount on an app?
In the presentation, Montero highlighted that the application would help "distribute care to have more time and live better." This idea, although commendable, doesn't seem to justify the expense compared to the urgent needs in public healthcare.
According to INE data, women spent more time than men on household chores.
