The EU Trademark Court boosts legal specialization in Alicante

The mayor of Alicante, Luis Barçala, has highlighted the importance of the European Union Trademark Court

The mayor of Alicante, Luis Barçala, has highlighted the importance of the European Union Trademark Court in consolidating Alicante's legal profession in the field of intellectual property and design within the European framework. This body, which operates from the Eighth Section of the Provincial Court, has turned the city into a global benchmark in this field, thanks also to the role played by the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO).

New judicial headquarters in Alicante

Barçala joined the Minister of Justice, Nuria Martínez, in the presentation of the new project for the judicial headquarters that will house the Trademark Court. The Generalitat Valenciana will allocate 3.3 million euros ($3.3 million) to its construction on Pardo Jimeno Street, within the Benalúa neighborhood. This court is the only body with jurisdiction throughout Spain outside of Madrid, which reinforces Alicante's role in the legal defense of industrial and intellectual property.

Before the official announcement, the mayor and the minister visited the provisional headquarters of the Commercial Courts, located on Alona Street. During the tour, Martínez explained that the new court will have advanced facilities, including two hearing rooms with simultaneous translation, a library, a meeting room, six offices for judges and lawyers, as well as a judicial office.

A key project for the future

Nuria Martínez emphasized that this new headquarters represents an essential milestone for Alicante and the Valencian Community, given its link to the protection of industrial property and trademark law. "From today, a process begins that we hope will conclude in 2026, ensuring that the city and the region continue to be benchmarks in the European legal field," stated the minister.

The boost to this court reaffirms Alicante's position as a legal epicenter in the defense of intellectual property, with a modern infrastructure that will improve efficiency in the management of litigation within the European context.
