Santa Cruz de Tenerife challenges Vigo and wants the tallest Christmas tree in Spain.

It will be located in the lake of Plaza de España, which must be drained to ensure electrical safety.

Santa Cruz de Tenerife aims to become a benchmark for Christmas celebrations in Spain. The city plans to install a Christmas tree that will be the tallest in the country, reaching 50 meters (164 feet) in height. This decorative structure will feature spectacular lighting.

The tree will be located in the lake of Plaza de España, which will need to be drained to ensure electrical safety. Carlos Tarife, the Councilor for Public Services, indicated that this action will represent "the great novelty of Christmas." Additionally, with a touch of humor, he commented that "even the mayor of Vigo will want to come to admire the best lighting in the country."

The news was shared during the presentation of the annual budget for Public Services, which stands at 13 million euros (approximately 14.3 million dollars). Of this amount, 637,250 euros (approximately 700,000 dollars) will be allocated to the renovation of public lighting and fountains, with 30,000 euros (approximately 33,000 dollars) specifically reserved for the installation of Christmas decorations.

Tarife also explained that, in addition to the Christmas tree, other significant improvements will be made to the city's infrastructure. These include the modernization of the hydraulic and electrical systems of the lake in Plaza de España. It will feature new LED lighting that will allow color changes, both on its exterior and interior.

The City Council will also carry out a series of investments to improve lighting in key areas of the city. A total of 186,000 euros (approximately 204,000 dollars) will be allocated to pedestrian crossings on the Rambla de Santa Cruz.

In the La Salud neighborhood, 133,000 euros (approximately 146,000 dollars) will be allocated to the renovation of the lighting on Adeje Street, along with more than 217,000 euros (approximately 238,000 dollars) to replace deteriorated supports in various areas of the city.

Among the planned projects, the installation of public lighting on San Martín Street after its rehabilitation is contemplated. There will also be improvements to the lighting on the Valleseco court.

Additionally, lighting will be provided to the walkway of the courts located next to the Galcerán Bridge. Improvements will be made to the access to the La Alegría neighborhood and on Álvarez de Lugo Street.

The councilor also announced that improvements will be made to the lighting of the fountains in Plaza Weyler and the extension of Ramón y Cajal Street. These reforms will have a total budget of 25,000 euros (approximately 27,000 dollars).
