Ribera, first healthcare group in Spain to adapt its hospitals for colorblind people

Ribera has implemented the ColorADD color identification system in its university hospitals in Torrejón (Madrid), Vinalopó (Elche), and Ribera Povisa (Vigo)

The Ribera healthcare group has implemented the ColorADD color identification system in its university hospitals in Torrejón (Madrid), Vinalopó (Elche), and Ribera Povisa (Vigo), becoming the first healthcare group in Spain to make its centers accessible to colorblind individuals. This universal visual language, known as the "color alphabet," facilitates color identification for those who suffer from color blindness. In 2025, Ribera will extend the initiative to all its hospitals as part of its Functional Diversity Plan.

Color blindness is a genetic alteration that prevents correct color distinction. In Spain, it affects 2.5 million people and 350 million worldwide. 10% of men and 1% of women suffer from this condition, which can complicate their daily lives in multiple aspects, including navigation in environments like hospitals.

The use of color is key in healthcare centers, as signage, patient itineraries, and other visual tools depend on it. With the implementation of ColorADD, Ribera ensures that these elements are accessible to colorblind individuals, facilitating their mobility and autonomy within the hospitals.

Until now, the Hospital de Sant Pau i Santa Creu in Barcelona was the only healthcare center in Spain adapted for colorblind individuals. With this initiative, Ribera reinforces its commitment to accessibility and inclusion, ensuring that all patients, regardless of their visual condition, can navigate its facilities without difficulty.

ColorADD has been integrated into 90 countries in sectors such as healthcare, public transportation, education, sports stadiums, and beach signage. In Spain, it is already used by schools, municipalities, and other public spaces. With its implementation in hospitals, the Ribera group positions itself at the forefront of inclusion for people with sensory functional diversity.
