The President of the Castellón Provincial Council Highlights the Work of Volunteers
Marta Barrachina Praises the Solidarity and Commitment of the Provincial Civil Protection Volunteer Group
The President of the Provincial Council of Castellón, Marta Barrachina, highlighted the solidarity and commitment of the Provincial Civil Protection Volunteers Group during the ceremony for awarding certificates to the 23 new volunteers who have successfully completed the new entry course.
The event, held in commemoration of World 112 Emergency Day, was attended by the Deputy of the Provincial Firefighters Consortium, David Vicente, as well as heads of the Civil Protection volunteers and the Provincial Firefighters Consortium.
"We welcome our new volunteers with pride and gratitude, convinced that they will carry out their work with the same passion and commitment that defines this group," expressed Barrachina. She emphasized that "solidarity is not just a word, but a way of life reflected in each of you. Castellón is a land of generous people, always ready to lend a hand to those in need. You are the best example of that greatness."
Since its creation in 2013, the Group has grown to become an essential pillar of provincial security. With more than 100 volunteers, it supports 105 affiliated municipalities, participating in events, emergencies, and special operations. The group has carried out more than 6,000 services and maintains an average of 700 annual actions.
It is the only provincial-level Civil Protection group in the Valencian Community, covering the largest number of municipalities. Integrated into the structure of the Castellón Provincial Firefighters Consortium, it provides an essential service under its direction and coordination.
The group participates in preventive devices for festive, sports, and major events such as FIB, Arenal Sound, or Rototom. It also provides logistical support in emergencies, including DANA episodes, forest fires like those in Les Useres (2002), Bejís, Villanueva de Viver (2023), the Covid-19 crisis, and the collapse of the Peñíscola building in 2021.
Barrachina concluded by highlighting that "being part of Civil Protection is not just wearing a uniform, but assuming the responsibility of protecting and caring for our neighbors. It is being part of a great family that, day by day, demonstrates its vocation of service and love for this land."
