Begoña Carrasco Fulfills Her Promises to the People of Castellón

The Castellón City Council strengthens local security with the creation of the Neighborhood and Mountain Urbanization Police Unit.

The Mayor of Castellón, Begoña Carrasco, has officially presented the new Mountain Neighborhoods and Urbanizations Police Unit, a measure that fulfills the commitment made during the electoral campaign to improve security and proximity with citizens.

This unit is part of the Proximity Section of the Local Police, which now has a total of 30 personnel: 22 officers, 6 sergeants, 1 inspector, and 1 superintendent. It is noteworthy that these numbers don't include the personnel assigned to the maritime district, which has its own staff. The creation of this unit has been made possible thanks to the recent addition of 13 new sergeants in January, which has strengthened the command structure and expanded police presence in all neighborhoods.

The presentation event, held at the Grupo Reyes, was attended by the Councilor for Security and Emergencies, Antonio Ortolá, the Councilor for Neighborhoods, Paco Cabañero, and the Chief Commissioner of the Local Police, Francisco Javier Catalán, along with representatives from 20 neighborhood associations.

"With this new unit, we take another step toward a real proximity police, ensuring the safety of all Castellón residents, no matter where they live. Our goal is to reach 300 officers in the Local Police by 2025," stated Mayor Carrasco.

Residents will be able to contact a reference officer directly through their neighborhood associations, allowing for smoother communication and efficient handling of incidents. However, for emergency situations, the recommendation to use the quick reply numbers remains: 092 for the Local Police and 091 for the National Police.

This new police model focuses on proximity, prevention, and conflict resolution, both in the city center and in peripheral neighborhoods and mountain urbanizations. "Today we fulfill our promise, strengthening security in all areas of Castellón," emphasized Carrasco.

The Chief Commissioner highlighted that the unit will work closely with the city's associative network, ensuring a constant presence and addressing the specific needs of each area. Meanwhile, the Councilor for Security and Emergencies emphasized that this initiative revives a neighborhood police model that had been lost, facilitating a more agile and effective reply to any situation.

As a new feature, the Central District will have a new sergeant dedicated to coordinating the actions of the Proximity Section, optimizing management in one of the areas with the most activity and interventions in the city.

With these additions, the City Council reaffirms its commitment to continue expanding the Proximity Section's staff, with plans to add at least 15 more officers in the future, thus consolidating a closer, more accessible, and effective security model for all Castellón residents.
