PP to Seek the Censure of Attorney General Álvaro García Ortiz in Congress

This is the second time that PP tries to have the Lower House censure the Attorney General

People's Party is going to try to have Congress censure the Attorney General Álvaro García Ortiz. It is going to take place during the first plenary session of the year, scheduled for this week.

They seek to censure him for using his personal email account to receive "protected data" about Alberto González Amador. The latter is the couple of the President of the Community of Madrid, Isabel Díaz Ayuso.

The "populars" have included this censure in the motion resulting from Deputy Cayetana Álvarez de Toledo's intervention. She originally addressed the Minister of Presidency and Justice, Félix Bolaños, last December, in the last plenary session of 2024.

This is the second time the PP attempts to have the Lower House censure the Attorney General. Such a censure did pass in the Senate, where the "populars" have an absolute majority.

This time, according to Europa Press, they specifically point to the case that the Supreme Court has open against him and the Chief Provincial Prosecutor of Madrid, Pilar Rodríguez Fernández. It is related to an alleged crime of disclosure of confidential information.

The investigation concerns the dissemination of an email between Ayuso's couple's lawyer and the Public Prosecutor's Office. There, it is acknowledged that Alberto González Amador has committed a tax offense and seeks a deal with the Prosecutor's Office.

The PP highlights that one of the things being investigated is Ortiz's use of his "personal Gmail account." Allegedly, it was used to receive "protected data" from the provincial prosecutor. Apparently, "he had requested[it]via WhatsApp from another subordinate."

The Chief Provincial Prosecutor of Madrid, Pilar Rodríguez Fernández did use her corporate email to send the messages to García Ortiz. She stated before the Supreme Court that it didn't seem "strange" to her that her superior asked her to send them to his personal email. Additionally, she denied having conspired with him to leak information about Alberto González Amador.

In this context, the PP will again advocate for the censure of the Attorney General. For his "involvement in actions aimed at disseminating, for political-narrative reasons, confidential information of individuals investigated by the Prosecutor's Office." Additionally,  for doing so using private email accounts to receive information containing personal data (in this case, Ayuso's boyfriend).
