Polo agrees with Mazón: 'No information was conveyed about the Poyo ravine'
The president of the Júcar Hydrographic Confederation (CHJ), Miguel Polo, acknowledges the lack of communication during the rise of the Poyo ravine
The president of the Júcar River Basin Confederation (CHJ), Miguel Polo, acknowledged at the government board meeting on December 19 the lack of communication from his entity during the rise of the Poyo ravine.
According to sources present at the meeting, Polo admitted that "information about the Poyo ravine wasn't conveyed" at that crucial moment. He was referring to the omission of emails to the Generalitat's Emergencies, violating the established protocol.
The CHJ avoided confirming or denying his words and announced that it would review the minutes and recordings of the board. The entity had already acknowledged days after the storm that it didn't inform by email between 3:50 PM and 6:43 PM, when the flow had exponentially increased to 1,686 cubic meters per second. At that time, the force of the water destroyed the measurement systems.
The CHJ claims that its data was available on its website every five minutes, but the protocol requires notification by email every time the flow exceeds 150 cubic meters, something it omitted 15 times, sending the notice 78 minutes late.
The president of the Generalitat, Carlos Mazón, stated that "the truth is coming to light" after months of political attacks. He accused the PSOE of covering up the lack of warnings and criticized Pedro Sánchez's government for prioritizing politics over people.
Since October 29, the CHJ hasn't provided explanations about its management. Polo broke his silence three months later, defending the Government and blaming the Generalitat for the emergency. He limited himself to saying: "We aren't responsible."
Regarding his appearance before the Les Corts Investigation Commission, Polo indicated that the CHJ would consult the State Attorney's Office before deciding whether to attend. In the Valencia City Council commission, he also didn't attend, arguing that they would respond in writing to any inquiry.
