Moroccans demand that Spain validate their driver's license without an exam

Dozens of Moroccan citizens recently demonstrated in front of the DGT demanding the validation

The Moroccan community has increased considerably in Spain. It has become one of the most important groups, with more than one million people in a completely legalized situation.

However, now Moroccans are demanding that their driver's licenses be validated. The truth is that, like everyone else, they must pass the driving test to obtain the license. But it is not easy for Moroccans.

First, the language barrier poses a problem on numerous occasions when taking the driving test in Spain. In addition to being unfamiliar with Western scripts.

Even so, the Spanish Government has already conceded, and in many signs, letters in Arabic already appear. It should be noted that in Spain it is not possible to take the driving test if the applicant can't read. Either due to illiteracy or not knowing the language.

Despite Spain's efforts, Morocco keeps pushing the envelope. Just a few days ago, dozens of Moroccans were protesting in front of the DGT and the Moroccan Embassy, demanding a solution.

While there is a validation agreement, in 2004 numerous fake Moroccan driver's licenses were detected in Spain requesting validation.

Meanwhile, drivers continue to demand that Spain validate their licenses without having to take any exam.

The continuous use of the Moroccan driver's license by numerous citizens in Spain has created an additional issue. Without a validated Spanish license, these drivers risk fines of 500 euros for driving without the corresponding documentation.

To solve this problem, the option of undergoing at least a practical test has been proposed. This would allow them to obtain the Spanish license legally.

In terms of road safety, Morocco has attempted to strengthen its driving assessments. However, until ten years ago, the pass rate was around 90%, partly due to fraudulent practices that facilitated obtaining the license in exchange for irregular payments. During that period, the country recorded more than 4,300 annual deaths in traffic accidents, a concerning figure.
