This is Donald Trump's decision on TikTok's future: I have the right to...
The President of the United States has made a decision that ends the uncertainty regarding the future of the Chinese app
The future of TikTok in the United States hangs by a thread. The Chinese social network was banned for alleged espionage in the American giant, however, Donald Trump's victory changed the imminent elimination of the application in the United States. Before taking office, Trump let it be known that he had changed his view on TikTok after gaining many young votes from that platform.
In the crucial week for TikTok, the possible purchase of the social network by South African magnate Elon Musk was considered. But this Monday, President Trump has already made it clear.
Donald Trump signed an executive order this Monday instructing the Departments of Treasury and Commerce to establish a sovereign fund. With the possibility that this could acquire the social network TikTok.
From the Oval Office, Trump stated the following:
I believe that Scott and I are going to create an unbelievable sovereign fund. Other much smaller countries have it and they aren't the United States. We have unbelievable potential in this country.
This, in reference to Scott Bessent, his nominee to head the Department of Treasury.

During his intervention, the president suggested that TikTok could be part of this fund and left open the possibility of an agreement for its purchase. He also noted that:
We're going to do something. Maybe with TikTok or maybe not. We'll make the right deal with the noise we want.
But I have the right to do it, and we could put it in the sovereign fund.
Trump also highlighted that this fund could include various strategic investments, although he didn't detail what the first acquisitions would be. His announcement comes in a context of growing tension with China and concerns in Washington about data security on foreign digital platforms.
TikTok continues operating in the U.S. thanks to Trump
The social network TikTok continues functioning in the United States thanks to a 75-day extension signed by President Donald Trump on January 21. This, one day after taking office.
The measure temporarily suspended the application of a federal law passed under the previous administration, which had led the platform to cease operations in the country for one day.

The decree signed by Trump instructs the attorney general and the Department of Justice not to apply sanctions or take actions to enforce the regulation during the extension period. The law in question, pushed during former President Joe Biden's term, required TikTok to sever ties with its Chinese parent company, ByteDance. Also, to find a buyer in a country not considered an adversary before January 19.
Although the Supreme Court upheld the regulation, the lack of a new owner led to the temporary suspension of the service until the intervention of the new government.
In recent weeks, Trump referred to the future of TikTok through his social network, Truth Social. In it, he suggested the possibility of the United States obtaining a 50% stake in a joint venture.
He emphasized the following:
By doing this, we save TikTok, keep it in good hands, and allow it to continue growing.
Thus, leaving the door open to a negotiated solution for the platform's permanence in the country.
