Mazón Defends His Management of the Dana and Denies Being Out of Touch
The Valencian president appears in Madrid explaining his actions and highlights his constant contact with his team, blaming Aemet for an incorrect forecast.
Carlos Mazón appeared in Madrid for the first time since the worst flood in Valencian history took place. His objective was "to tell the truth" about what happened that day, explain the crisis management and clarify why he didn't request the Government to declare a state of emergency.
Mazón defended that he was never out of contact and managed the crisis in constant communication with his team and various institutional leaders. The list of calls made by Mazón during the afternoon of the disaster reveals his activity:
5:37 PM - Emergency Councilor
5:46 PM - President of the Provincial Council (WhatsApp)
6:16 PM - Emergency Councilor
6:25 PM - Emergency Councilor
6:25 PM - President of the Provincial Council
6:27 PM - President of the Provincial Council
6:28 PM - Mayor of Cullera
6:30 PM - Emergency Councilor
6:48 PM - Director General of Communication
6:57 PM - PP Spokesperson (twice)
7:34 PM - Regional Secretary of Infrastructure, Javier Sendra
7:41 PM - Regional Secretary of the President's Office
7:43 PM - Emergency Councilor
7:43 PM - Director General of the Cabinet Secretariat
7:44 PM - Director General of Organization and Coordination of the Presidency
His intervention took place at the Fòrum Nueva Economía breakfast briefing, at the Ritz Hotel, where he was introduced by the Mayor of Madrid, José Luis Martínez-Almeida. The event was attended by prominent PP leaders, such as the Secretary General, Cuca Gamarra, and the Deputy Secretaries Esteban González Pons, Juan Bravo, and Ester Muñoz, among others.
Mazón defended that the Generalitat was prepared for the DANA, but pointed out that the problem was Aemet's erroneous forecast. "Red alerts are a common phenomenon in the Valencian Community, but the forecast was four times less than what actually happened," he stated. He also distanced himself from the delay in the Paiporta alert at 8:00 PM, blaming Cecopi, in which Aemet and the Júcar Hydrographic Confederation participate.
Regarding his role during the emergency, he denied being out of contact and highlighted the 16 calls made with his team. He also assured that "all the information will be delivered to the investigation committees."
Mazón concluded his intervention by reaffirming his commitment to the reconstruction of the Valencian Community. "Our objective is clear: to ensure that something like this doesn't happen again and that those affected receive the support they need. It's not a time for partisan debates but for solutions," he stated.
