Mazón Thanks Eu for 68 Million in Aid to Farmers for Dana
The European Commissioner for Agriculture confirms the distribution of funds intended for those affected by the floods on October 29.
The president of the Generalitat, Carlos Mazón, has thanked the European Commissioner for Agriculture, Christophe Hansen, for the allocation of 68 million euros from the agricultural emergency reserve to help Valencian farmers affected by floods and drought.
During the meeting, which was also attended by the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, Luis Planas, it was confirmed that 53 million euros of this aid will be allocated to compensate for the damage caused by the floods on October 29. The rest of the fund will be used for measures to mitigate the water scarcity affecting numerous farms in the Valencian Community.
Mazón has highlighted the importance of this financial support for a key sector in the Valencian economy and has emphasized the need to continue working on prevention policies and adaptation to climate change. "The Valencian countryside is going through very difficult times, and these aids will help alleviate the burden on our farmers and ranchers, but it is also essential to advance in water infrastructure that guarantees the future of the sector," stated the president.
The meeting was attended by representatives of the main agricultural organizations of the Valencian Community, including AVA-Asaja, La Unió, Asaja-Alicante, UPA, COAG and Cooperatives Agro-Alimentàries. The leaders of these associations have expressed their concerns about the difficult situation of the sector, worsened by rising costs, lack of water and unfair competition from third countries.
Meanwhile, Commissioner Hansen has reiterated the European Commission's commitment to Valencian agriculture and has noted that the EU will remain alert to the evolution of the climate crisis and its impact on agri-food production.
The meeting also served to strengthen collaboration between administrations and the agricultural sector with the aim of improving the resilience of the countryside to future adverse climatic events.
