Mazón accuses the president of the Hydrographic Confederation Polo of washing his hands
The Valencian president demands Polo take responsibility for the disaster caused by the DANA on October 29th in Valencia.
The president of the Generalitat, Carlos Mazón, has accused the president of the Júcar Hydrographic Confederation, Miguel Polo, of trying to wash his hands of his responsibility regarding the disaster caused by the DANA on October 29th in Valencia.
Asked by journalists after a visit to the facilities of the aerospace company PLD Space in the industrial park of Torrellano in Elche, Alicante, the head of the Consell described Polo's statements this Wednesday as sad, stating that the institution he leads is not responsible for what happened due to the DANA.
Mazón has insisted that the Júcar Hydrographic Confederation has clear responsibilities in the management of watercourses and in the prevention of natural disasters and has lamented that its top official tries to evade responsibilities instead of working on solutions. The president has recalled that the Generalitat has repeatedly demanded an improvement in the planning and management of water infrastructures to avoid episodes like the one experienced in Valencia last autumn.
In this regard, Mazón has pointed out that it is essential for all administrations to assume their role in protecting the territory and responding to natural emergencies. He has emphasized that the Generalitat has launched an action plan to mitigate the effects of future DANAs but has insisted that the involvement of the central government and organizations like the Júcar Hydrographic Confederation is necessary to achieve effective results.
The president has also highlighted the effort of the emergency services and the affected municipalities that worked tirelessly to restore normality in the most damaged areas. He hasn'ted that the Generalitat will continue to demand investments and concrete measures to strengthen the hydraulic infrastructure of the Valencian Community and improve prevention against extreme weather phenomena.
Finally, Mazón has urged the Júcar Hydrographic Confederation to assume its responsibilities and to collaborate more actively with the rest of the administrations to ensure effective management of water and natural resources in the region.
