Alicante breaks record in the International Half Marathon with 5,300 runners
Mayor Luis Barçala has highlighted the importance of this competition for the city
Alicante has broken its participation record in the twenty-ninth edition of the Meridiano International Half Marathon and ten kilometers Aguas de Alicante with five thousand three hundred registered runners. The event will be held on Sunday, February sixteenth, with the start and finish at Dock twelve of the Port of Alicante. The event organized by the Club Atlético Montemar will feature forty percent of foreign participants from forty-three countries, which reinforces its international impact.
The mayor, Luis Barçala, has highlighted the importance of this competition for the city, stating that it helps to spread the best image of a hospitable and cosmopolitan city. He considers it a sporting and social event that invites sharing experiences and exports the feeling of Alicante through sports. He also pointed out that the slogan "Alicante, a city to run" perfectly reflects the spirit of the event.
Sergio Sánchez, general director of Aguas de Alicante, has emphasized the company's commitment to promoting healthy lifestyle habits that guarantee well-being and highlighted the participation of sixty-four company employees in the race. Meanwhile, Sonia Latorre, general director of Meridiano Seguros, hasn'ted that their support reinforces the commitment to sustainability, sports, and a healthy life.
One of the most emotional moments will be the performance of the Alicante Anthem by tenor Mario González moments before the start. The runners will pass through emblematic places such as Denia Avenue, Villajoyosa Avenue, Gómiz Promenade, the Esplanade, and Canalejas Park. This route has been approved until the year two thousand thirty-two by the Royal Spanish Athletics Federation.
The event will feature more than two hundred volunteers and sixty physiotherapy students who will provide assistance to the runners. More than twenty bonfire commissions will also participate to cheer the route, and there will be a concert in the finish area. The race is one hundred percent inclusive with free registration for people with disabilities and the possibility to collaborate with the Red Cross and the Adiem Foundation through the Solidarity Bib.
