The Legislature of Alicante approves the General Budget for 2025

This budget will allow for investments in infrastructure, services, and support programs for municipalities

The plenary session of the Legislature of Alicante held a special session today. The General Budget of the provincial institution for 2025 was ultimately approved after dismissing the claim filed against it by the spokesperson of the Compromís Group, Ximo Perles. The province deputy lacked the standing contemplated in the Local Treasury Regulatory Law.

The spokesman of the Valencianist formation and province deputy requested in his claim the annulment of the two 2025 accounts, arguing that there are irregularities in the budgets of Proaguas and the Costa Blanca Tourism Board, which are part of the consolidated budget of the Legislature. Upon examining the claim, it was agreed to dismiss it due to the lack of standing contemplated in sections 169.1 and 170.1 of the Royal Legislative Order 2/2024. The latter approves the Revised Text of the Local Treasury Regulatory Law.

It is then concluded that, during the public exhibition process of the budgets, the submission of possible claims is limited to individuals and legal entities. Among those, political groups are not included. After all, they already have participation through the budget drafting and approval process, presenting in this sense the proposals they deem appropriate. This is what the Compromís Group already did in its day in the Legislature, proposing seven amendments to the provincial accounts during the budget-debate session.

Once the claim was dismissed, the session ultimately passed the general budget for this fiscal year with the favorable votes of Grupo Popular and the opposing votes of PSOE, Vox, and Compromís, amounting to 383,589,933 euros, the highest in the history of the Legislature.

This budget will allow for investments in infrastructure, services, and support programs for municipalities. The aim is to improve the quality of life in the province. Additionally, it includes allocations to promote tourism, cultural promotion, and economic development.
