The Large Amount of Evidence in Koldo Case Forces Judge to Make a Decision

The Koldo case is nowhere near ending. The judge of the National Court, Ismael Moreno, in charge of the investigation of the Koldo case, has made a decision.

In his new order, he decided to extend the investigation for six more months. In his resolution, he argues that the large number of documents seized after the arrests in February of last year are still being analyzed by the Civil Guard. Additionally, he notes that new reports on the case are still pending.

This investigation began around a network of illegal commission payments. This was linked to the awarding of public contracts to the company Soluciones de Gestión.

During the pandemic, this company obtained agreements with socialist administrations for the purchase of medical supplies. The plot had its core in the Ministry of Transport, then led by Ábalos, who was the Secretary of Organization of PSOE.

The bulk of the procedure was transferred to the Supreme Court after the judge deemed it necessary to investigate Ábalos due to his status as a privileged person. In this context, businessman Víctor de Aldama played an essential role as an intermediary for the benefited company. His relationship with Koldo García, the minister's advisor, facilitated access to business opportunities within the Ministry.

The case reports also mention links of the plot with Francina Armengol, former president of the Balearic Islands and current president of the Congress of Deputies. As well as with Ángel Víctor Torres, former leader of the Government of the Canary Islands and current Minister of Territorial Policy.

Although the initial investigation period expired on March 2, the legislation allows for its extension in complex cases. For this reason, the magistrate has authorized an extension, considering the extensive volume of documentation seized.

In the resolution issued by the Central Investigative Court number 2, it emphasizes that the development of the investigation could lead to new charges. For this reason, the judge has decided to extend the investigation for six more months.

Last week, Moreno had already ordered the opening of a new separate piece within the case, after receiving a report from the Central Operational Unit of the Civil Guard. Additionally, this Monday, the National Court sent a box with documents related to Koldo García and his brother, Joseba García, to this unit.
