Supreme Court's Hard Blow to García Ortiz: They Request His Messages from WhatsApp Headquarters

The Supreme Court judge requests U.S. cooperation to recover deleted messages in the attorney general's case

Supreme Court Judge Ángel Hurtado has requested the cooperation of United States authorities in the investigation against the State Attorney General, Álvaro García Ortiz. This is for an alleged crime of revealing secrets.

This decision comes after receiving a communication from Irish authorities in response to the Letter Rogatory sent to WhatsApp to obtain relevant information about the case.

Additionally, the judge has decided to extend the ongoing investigation against García Ortiz and the Provincial Prosecutor of Madrid, Pilar Rodríguez, both charged in the proceedings, by six months. This period is considered necessary to receive the results of the inquiries requested from Google and WhatsApp about the content stored on their servers. Which would have been "deliberately" deleted by the Attorney General on two occasions, just the day he became aware of his indictment.

The Judge Makes a Crucial Decision in the Case

Judge Ángel Hurtado decided last Wednesday to extend the investigation into the State Attorney General, Álvaro García Ortiz, by six months. This is due to the difficulties arising from his lack of cooperation in the case investigating the possible leak of data of the boyfriend of the Madrid President, Isabel Díaz Ayuso.

According to the case instructor, the investigation has been hindered because García Ortiz would have deleted key information from his electronic devices. This has forced the use of alternative data recovery methods, a slower and more complex process.

In the order, the judge notes that, although the Attorney General cooperated during the search of his office last October 30, his subsequent attitude complicated matters. Since his behaviors have prevented clarifying the facts. The deletion of data has forced the use of advanced technological investigation, with the hope of recovering the lost information.

Additionally, the judge emphasizes that the progress of the case depends on the outcome of letters rogatory sent to Ireland. Which are directed to technology companies that could restore WhatsApp messages and emails deleted by García Ortiz after the investigation was opened.
