The Government Rewards Inés Hernand Who Called Madrid 'a Horrible Sinkhole'

The Government Delegation has awarded Hernand, who described Madrid as 'a horrible sinkhole,' generating great controversy.

The Government Delegation in Madrid has caused controversy by honoring Inés Hernand, TVE presenter, with the '8M. 8 Women, 8 Reasons' recognition this Wednesday. This award is given annually in the framework of International Women's Day and aims to highlight women who fight for equality and human rights.

The controversy arose due to Hernand's comments during the Benidorm Fest, an event that was used to launch criticisms against the president of the Community of Madrid, Isabel Díaz Ayuso. Hernand described Madrid as "a horrible sinkhole," generating great controversy. These comments were widely disseminated, leading many people to question the role of the presenter in such a high-visibility event.

Inés Hernand has never hidden her admiration for Pedro Sánchez. At the last Goya red carpet, the presenter addressed the president of the Government with a "you're an icon, presi, we love you," a gesture that did not go unnoticed. This support for Sánchez provoked the reproach of the TVE news council, who consider that such expression could compromise informational impartiality.

Despite the controversy caused, this Wednesday Hernand received the '8M. 8 Women, 8 Reasons' recognition, which acknowledges the work of influential women in different fields.

During the event, which was presided over by Fran Martín Aguirre, Government delegate in Madrid and a trusted man of Sánchez. Hernand took the opportunity to criticize those who use the word "freedom" to trample on the rights of trans women.

Additionally, the presenter showed her support for migrant women. Especially those who work in the care sector and those who face obstacles in accessing basic services such as healthcare and justice. Her speech focused on the need to adopt integration policies and fight for equality.

The Government Delegation also recognized other outstanding women in the fight for equality. Among them is the footballer Jenni Hermoso, who was awarded for her courage in denouncing the former president of the RFEF, Luis Rubiales, for his inappropriate behavior. Hermoso has been seen as a reference of courage and commitment beyond the sports field.
