Donald Trump Fires All of Biden's Prosecutors and Promises to 'clean House'

 U.S. President Donald Trump ordered the dismissal of all federal prosecutors appointed by his predecessor, Joe Biden. Trump justified his decision on Truth Social, stating that the Department of Justice has been "politicized like never before".

"I have ordered the termination of ALL 'Biden-era' prosecutors. We must clean house and restore trust in justice," he said. The dismissal of prosecutors from previous administrations is common.

The United States has 93 federal prosecutors, one for each judicial district, except in two districts that share the same prosecutor. Since Trump's victory in November, several Biden prosecutors resigned anticipating changes with the arrival of the new administration.

However, this massive dismissal is part of a restructuring of the Department of Justice driven by the White House. The former president has repeatedly criticized the institution, accusing it of being against him and acting in a partisan manner.

During his first term, Trump had a tense relationship with the Department of Justice, especially after "Russiagate". His distrust grew with investigations into his alleged interference in the elections and his role in the Capitol assault.

Senior officials have been dismissed, demoted or reassigned, including members of Special Counsel Jack Smith's office. Smith presented two criminal cases against Trump that were dismissed, which reinforced the president's stance against the institution.

Additionally, last week the acting prosecutor for the Southern District of New York resigned after corruption charges against Eric Adams were dropped. Adams, New York City Mayor, had been investigated for illegal financing, but the case was closed under controversial circumstances.

Trump has insisted that the Department of Justice has acted with a double standard and that his administration will correct this situation. Attorney General Pam Bondi promised to eliminate politicization within the Department and restore citizens' trust.

In her Senate confirmation hearing, Bondi assured that the priority is to ensure impartiality in law enforcement. Critics argue that the massive dismissal of prosecutors could affect ongoing investigations and create legal uncertainty.

Democrats have labeled this decision as an attempt to manipulate the judicial system to favor Trump and his circle. Some analysts warn that this purge could open the door to more aggressive judicialization against political adversaries.

Republicans defend the measure and claim it was necessary to end the "abuses" committed by progressive prosecutors. The White House maintains that the decision seeks to restore the independence of the Department of Justice and curb political persecution.
