The Legislature De Valencia and Emtre Distribute Containers Donated by Türkiye

Torrent and Picanya receive the first 106 of the 340 waste containers that will replace those damaged by the DANA

Diputació de València and the Metropolitan Waste Treatment Entity (EMTRE) have begun distributing the 340 waste containers donated by Türkiye and Generalitat Valenciana to replace those destroyed by the DANA. In an event held at the Los Hornillos Treatment Plant in Quart de Poblet, the president of Diputació, Vicent Mompó, and the president of EMTRE, Emilio José Belencoso, delivered the first 106 containers to the municipalities of Torrent and Picanya.

The donation is part of the Memorandum of Understanding on Disaster and Emergency Management signed between Spain and Türkiye in 2021. After the severe floods suffered in the province, the Spanish government requested Türkiye's help to replace the containers swept away by the water in several municipalities.

The president of Diputació, Vicent Mompó, highlighted the importance of institutional collaboration to restore normalcy in the affected localities.

"When administrations work together, we achieve results like this," Mompó noted, recalling that the action is part of an unprecedented operation in Spain's history for waste removal after a catastrophe.

Meanwhile, the president of EMTRE, Emilio José Belencoso, insisted that although the worst is over, many municipalities still need support to rebuild their infrastructures.

"Recovering selective waste separation is essential for the well-being of the citizens and the environment," he stated.

The Environmental Councilors of Torrent and Picanya, José Gozalbo and Asdrúbal Ferrer, expressed gratitude for the replacement of the containers, which will improve waste collection in their municipalities.

An Integral Recovery Plan

Diputació and EMTRE are working alongside Generalitat and the managers SCRAPS, Ecovidrio, and Ecoembes to restore separate waste collection. Thanks to this collaboration, Ecovidrio has already replaced the destroyed glass containers.

Since the onset of the DANA, EMTRE has received over 200,000 metric tons (220,462 tons) of waste in a designated area in Quart de Poblet. Additionally, Diputació has supported the reconstruction of the access to Buñol, ensuring EMTRE's operation during the most critical weeks following the storm.
