Consum raises salaries by 3.6% for its entire workforce
Consum has approved a 3.6% salary increase for its entire workforce, composed of more than 21,800 workers. The measure, which aims to improve employees' purchasing power, will be applied starting from the February payroll and represents an investment of over 24 million euros. The minimum increase for newly incorporated worker-members will be 689 euros gross annually.
With this increase, Consum employees have accumulated a 17% salary increase over the last three years. In 2022, the Cooperative applied a 9% increase, the largest in 15 years, and in 2023 it increased by 3.6%.
Cooperative model and profit sharing
Consum's worker-members are owners of the Cooperative and participate in management and profit sharing. In addition to the salary, they receive the cooperative return and interest on their contributions to the share capital annually. In 2024, Consum has distributed 105.1 million euros, of which 68.4 million correspond to cooperative results and 36.7 million to performance bonuses.
Employment growth
In the last year, Consum has caused more than 650 jobs, 3% more than the previous year, reaching a workforce of more than 21,800 people. In the last decade, it has doubled its number of employees with the creation of nearly 10,000 stable jobs.
The workforce is mainly distributed in the Valencian Community, where 63% of the employees work, followed by Catalonia, with 20%, and the Region of Murcia, with 7.7%. It also has a presence in Castilla-La Mancha and Andalusia, with 4% of the workforce in each community.
Work-life balance and well-being
Consum has reduced the annual working hours by 20 hours in the last two years, going from 1,790 to 1,770 hours. Additionally, it offers work-life balance measures such as continuous workday, five weeks of vacation, proximity of the workplace to home, and profit sharing.
Since 2021, the Cooperative has implemented a five-day workweek across its entire supermarket network, becoming the first company in the sector to apply this measure to its entire workforce.
In recognition of its human resources management, Consum has renewed the Top Employers seal for the twelfth consecutive year, which endorses its working conditions and support for talent.
Support for workers affected by the DANA
Consum has launched a Donations and 0% Interest Loans Plan to help the nearly 1,000 workers affected by the DANA. The Cooperative activated the Plan with an initial contribution of 4 million euros and opened an urgent channel for requesting salary advances to cover basic needs.
Additionally, it has strengthened its Emotional Support Service, created during the pandemic, and its Online Medical Service, which provides coverage to workers in stores, headquarters, and logistics platforms in Silla, Ribarroja, and Quart.
