The arrest of the former deputy close to Yolanda Díaz involves a minor.

Xosé Xabier Ron Fernández was arrested last Tuesday by the Civil Guard. The former deputy of Alternativa Galega de Esquerda (AGE) and former candidate of Izquierda Unida for the mayoralty of Santiago de Compostela was detained. Specifically, at the place where he teaches, the IES Breamo.

Agents of the judicial brigade showed up at the educational center in the morning to conduct inspections, according to Faro de Vigo. According to La Voz de Galicia, this arrest occurs as a result of a complaint of sexual assault on a minor. It would be a young woman close to the former leader of Izquierda Unida, but who is not a student at the center where he was arrested. The complaint was filed by the mother of the alleged victim in Santiago.

It is important to remember that Xabier Ron was a candidate of Izquierda Unida for the mayoralty of Santiago in the 2007 and 2011 elections. He also led the IU list for La Coruña in the 2008 general elections.

His greatest political relevance came in 2012, when he won a seat in the Galician Parliament. At that time, he was part of the AGE coalition, representing IU.

It should be noted that Ron maintained a close political relationship with Yolanda Díaz. According to the Galician media, he was a politician close to Díaz, as he also had ties to the Ferrol estuary.

In addition to his teaching career, Ron is a historic militant of the Communist Party of Galicia and a member of its central committee. He is also part of the executive of Izquierda Unida-Esquerda Unida, where he holds the positions of Secretary of Social Movements and regional coordinator in Compostela.

He is also one of the founders of the Foro Galego de Inmigración.
