Begoña Gómez's Other Failed Attempt in Her Research

The "Begoña" law isn't in effect yet and the president's wife is still under investigation for four alleged crimes.

Judge Juan Carlos Peinado rejects Begoña Gómez's request to anonymize bank data. The judge investigating the wife of the Prime Minister for alleged corruption offenses has dismissed one of her requests.

Recently, Pedro Sánchez's wife asked the magistrate to keep certain private data confidential, arguing its potential relevance to the case.

In December, Gómez requested that the numbering of her bank accounts not be released. This, after the court received a report from the Judicial Neutral Point identifying 11 accounts in her name with a total balance of 40.25 euros.

The magistrate described the request as a "lack of specificity" and considered that both the current data and any that might be collected in the future could be key to the criminal process. Therefore, he decided to keep them as part of the investigation.

The judge also noted the "impossibility of foreseeing in advance which data will be necessary for the case's instruction." Therefore, he determined that it was not appropriate to accept the submitted request, according to a provision issued this Tuesday and accessed by El Confidencial.

Begoña Gómez's defense argued that the disclosure of this information violates "the fundamental principles of data protection." Additionally, they claimed that "it is completely false that most of these accounts have a balance close to 0." It's worth remembering that in November, the judge requested information about Gómez's accounts, and the Judicial Neutral Point sent a list that was described as "incomplete."

The analysis covers from December 1, 2019, to November 18, 2024. Of the 11 accounts detected, Gómez appears as "holder" in five, as "authorized" in two, and as "representative" in four. The list indicated that only two of them had a balance: 40.10 euros in one and 0.15 in another, but Gómez disputes these figures.

The New Lawsuit Cornering Begoña Gómez over the Controversial Software

Begoña Gómez is back in the news. Pedro Sánchez's wife is in the eye of the storm following a new lawsuit against her.

The National Court has sent Judge Peinado another lawsuit against Begoña Gómez, the wife of the Prime Minister. This time it has been filed by Vox for alleged influence peddling. All in relation to a 'software' from the chair she co-directed at the Complutense University.

According to EFE, the Madrid court upholds the appeal filed by Vox against the Court's decision. Which intends to reject its lawsuit against Gómez for alleged irregularities in the management of the 'software.' Something that it revokes and orders the lawsuit to be sent to the court already investigating these facts, to decide whether to admit it.

Now the judges of section 3 of the Provincial Court decide on a lawsuit from Vox. This had initially fallen to the Court of Instruction 34, recalling that they already sent Judge Peinado the lawsuit from HazteOir about the 'software.' And it's because this court was already investigating related facts.

They determine that "this criterion must be adopted in the resolution of the present appeal."

It's worth remembering that the head of the Court of Instruction number 41 has been investigating the president's wife since April 2024. All for alleged corruption in business and influence peddling.

However, since October, also for the alleged crimes of intrusion and embezzlement. For which the judge charged her after admitting a second lawsuit from the association HazteOír.

This latest one attributed to Begoña Gómez having registered the 'software' for the Competitive Social Transformation chair in her favor. The same one she co-directed at the Complutense and having drafted some specifications for the contracting.
