Alicante Launches 'Rutas del Cine' to Promote Film Shoots in the City

Alicante Launches the "Film Routes" to Promote Filming in the City

The Alicante City&Beach Tourism Board has launched the "Film Routes," an initiative that allows locals and visitors to discover the settings of numerous film productions shot in the city since 1951.

To achieve this, signs with QR codes have been installed at iconic locations such as the Santa Bárbara Castle, the historic center, the beaches, the port, and soon on Tabarca Island. By scanning them, users access detailed information about the films shot in each area, including data about their poster, synopsis, and main characters.

The Tourism Councilor, Ana Poquet, highlighted that "screen tourism is increasingly gaining prominence, and Alicante is committed to attracting film shoots, so we want to highlight the productions that have chosen our city to tell their stories." She also announced that the project will be expanded with new routes and films in the future.

Among the notable films on the Santa Bárbara Castle route are El Conde Drácula (1970), Drácula contra Frankenstein (1972), Los tres mosqueteros (1973), La dama boba (2006), Asterix y los Juegos Olímpicos (2008), Camino a Belén (2023), and El Cautivo (2024). All information is available in Spanish, Valencian, and English through the Tourism Board's website.

A 2024 Full of Filming

Last year, Alicante hosted 48 shoots, including films, series, documentaries, commercials, and photo reports, maintaining the trend from the previous year. Among them, the feature films El Cautivo, by Alejandro Amenábar, and La Mala Influencia stand out, as well as the series Mar Afuera and the French production Sud Est Babylon. Music videos by Arkano and Mocedades were also recorded, consolidating Alicante as an attractive destination for the audiovisual industry.
